For reservations, please call 860-272-3545. Call by noon the business day before your appointment to reserve your ride. Two weeks advance notice is requested for out-of-town medical appointment rides. Please call in reservations for rides to medical appointments as soon as you make your appointment.

When you call in your ride reservation, please be prepared to tell us:
  • Your name
  • Your address
  • Your telephone number
  • Your destination
  • The day and, if applicable, the time of the appointment
  • Where you will be waiting for the driver (front/back door, community building, etc.)
  • Whether you use a wheelchair, electric scooter or will have an escort riding with you for assistance.
If you call after office hours, you may leave a message with the ride information.  Our office staff will call you back as soon as possible to confirm the ride.

Out-of-Town Service

When volunteers are available, Enfield Dial-A-Ride offers its members out-of-town service for medical appointments to a variety of locations, including Springfield, Hartford, and Windsor.  Service is provided through volunteers who utilize Town of Enfield office cars to provide transportation.  For this reason, we are unfortunately unable to accommodate wheelchairs for this service.  A small donation is requested for this service.

Please schedule out-of-town rides at least two weeks in advance to allow us time to find a volunteer to provide transportation.  Unfortunately, due to the limited volunteers, we may not be able to provide transportation to all appointments.  We will call you as soon as we know whether we can provide transportation for an appointment or not.

Operating Procedures

Please be ready for pick up 20 minutes prior to the scheduled time. Our goal is to deliver you to your appointment on time. When the driver arrives, she or he will beep the horn and wait for you at the curb. Drivers will not use the driveway for safety considerations. Please respond promptly to the bus horn. All passengers are required to wear seat belts by law.

Passengers requiring assistance may bring an escort with them. Escorts ride for free. Please let us know you will bring an escort with you when you call to reserve your ride. If requests for Dial-A-Ride service exceed our capacity on a given day, we may need to limit rides. We prefer that grocery purchases are limited to 2 bags per person. The driver will not be able to help you carry your purchases.

Cancellation/Alteration of Services

If you cannot make a scheduled Dial-A-Ride appointment, please call our office as soon as possible to notify our staff so they may cancel your ride.  This includes having someone else return you from an appointment instead of Dial-A-Ride.

If you need to alter a previous appointment, such as changing the time, date, location, etc., please call our office as soon as you know so that we may make the appropriate changes.  If changes are requested after noon on the business day before the appointment, we cannot guarantee changes can be made.

Dial-A-Ride does not operate on the following holidays:  New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, President's Day, Good Friday, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veteran's Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
