Project Description:
Project 48-189 proposes to modify the intersection of Freshwater Boulevard and Cranbrook Avenue in the Town of Enfield. This intersection is located in the retail/commercial center of Enfield and services heavy traffic volumes during the traditional peak periods of retail operation.
A new traffic signal was installed at the intersection concurrent with the opening of the Home Depot store (located to the north). In recent years, this intersection has experienced more significant vehicle delays and poor operations during peak periods. In addition, the intersection geometry, raised median, and lack of left turn lanes on Freshwater Boulevard have created a sight line issue and unsafe condition for turning vehicles resulting in a high accident rate.
The proposed modifications will include removal of the center island median and minor widening to allow for the construction of opposing left turn lanes on Freshwater Boulevard to improve the operation and safety of the intersection. Additional work will include modifications to the traffic signal, minor drainage improvements and milling and resurfacing within the project limits.
The construction contract has been signed with Spazzarini Construction.

The project is substantially complete. The street lights at the top of the span poles have been installed along with the new controller box. The traffic signals have been activated to function as designed with the new turning lanes.
