PROGRAM INFORMATION & DATA:
When a major emergency occurs, either natural or manmade, the Office of
Emergency Management interacts with other emergency agencies from both
the public and private sectors to coordinate response and relief
activities. This includes contact with agencies and departments from
the local, State, and Federal governments. This office is also
responsible for maintaining and updating the local emergency operations
plan, which serves as an operational guideline to agencies during
significant emergencies. Additionally, the terrorists attacks on
America on Setpember 11, 2001, plus the subsequent anthrax incidents,
has resulted in this office participating in training and preparing for
acts of terrorism that could include the employment of weapons of mass
destruction.
DEPARTMENT GOALS:
Continue to maintain a high state of preparedness by interacting
and coordinating the activities of emergency agencies at the
local, State and Federal levels of government before, during and
after an incident.
Conduct two emergency management workshops in Enfield with local
agencies.
Upon request from Incident Commander, respond to scene of emergencies to
assist in operations.
Participate, when possible, in simulated exercises with local emergency
response agencies.
Continue active participation with regional emergency management efforts
such as the Capitol Region Emergency Preparedness Commission and the
North Central Connecticut Off-Site Air Crash Committee. |
