MINUTES OF JANUARY 13, 2010 MEETING

 

 

Marlene Hoginski called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.

 

PRESENT:  Marlene Hoginski, Shirley Carpenter, Judy Partridge Barbara O’Hara, Michael Mennella, Alice Egan, and Herbert Foy

 

ABSENT:  Marguerite DuPrey, Kay Tallarita, Denise McGill, Town Council Liaisons, William Edgar and Clemence Dumont, Susan Lather and Pamela Brown

 

SECRETARY’S REPORT: Accepted as written.  Motion to accept by Mike Mennella and seconded by Judy Partridge.

 

TREASURER’S REPORT:  Balance as of January 13, 2010 is $4,672.58.

 

GUEST SPEAKERPatty O’Brian, Director of North Central Regional Alzheimer’s Association, spoke of the disease.  Presently there are 700,000 cases in Connecticut (70% cared for at home).  By 2040, the patients will grown by over 300%.  The Commission will assist Ms. O’Brian with a program which will be at the Senior Center or the Library.  The date will be determined.  There will be a limit of 20 people per session. 

Topics to be covered will be:

                                                1.     What is Alzheimer’s?

                                                2.     Behavior and home safety.

                                                3.     Family Dynamics

                                                4.     Elder Attorney

 

 

NEW BUSINESS:

1.   Alzheimers program.  

2.   Enfield Adult Day Care has requested a donation so their clients could see Gee's Band at the Hartford Stage.  Motion to present $50.00 to the Day Care by Alice Egan and seconded by Herb Foy.  All members agreed.

 

OLD BUSINESS:  None

Meeting adjourned at 5:40 p.m. 

 

The next meeting for the Commission on Aging will be held on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at 5:00 p.m. at the Senior Center, 299 Elm Street, Enfield , CT.
