Kim reported that the financial report followed the trend of the rest of the country. Dividends were still received, but losses in stock were evident.

OLD BUSINESS
Henry brought the Board out to the Children’s Department to see the actual items authorized for purchase at our last meeting on October 27, 2008. The Board was very pleased with the small comfortable reading nook for the very youngest patrons along with the new shelving for board books which was definitely needed. The mitt chairs are a delight for the slightly older children. They are shaped like a catcher’s mitt in bright red and blue. Back in Henry’s office, he showed us the new 2009 “Discovery Packs.” They are theme related and are suited to preschool to intermediate elementary school age levels. This item is made of sturdy net and holds multi-media materials of varying types and can be carried as a backpack.
Henry reported to us that the program “Atka, the Wolf” had to be cancelled due to a snowstorm. However, “Atka” will appear with the bonus of two shows instead of the one originally scheduled. Both shows will be held on April 2. “Atka” is from a reclamation center in South Salem, New York.
NEW BUSINESS
A program which is looked forward to every year is the Summer Reading Program. Henry announced that “Reading is Natural” will be the 2009 theme.
Henry also related that the Library’s circulation figures continue to rise as more and more people are not buying as many books but are using their Library during this recession. Circulation statistics rose 11.6%.
The Board then carefully went over the requests which were for:
Community Room Tables, a Computer Desk, six book trucks and book bags which are used as fund raisers and for check outs
Ann made a motion that we authorize Henry to obtain these items and Jeanne seconded the motion. The motion passed.
Ann made a motion to adjourn and Debbie seconded the motion. The motion passed.
The meeting adjourned at 9:58 A.M.
Respectfully Submitted,
Jeanne Smith
Secretary
