ENFIELD CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION

Minutes of Regular Meeting

Enfield Room – 6:35 p.m.

Present

Mary Keller, Yvonne Wollenberg, Terri Jedynak, Cathy Sperrazza , Betty Maguire, Hal Grout and Diane Carlone

Acceptance of Minutes

Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted by Cathy Sperrazza and seconded by Hal Grout.

Chairperson’s Remarks

Diane welcomed our new member Betty Maguire.  She also welcomed Sam Dupuis joining the meeting as an observer.

Report of our trip to Boston to attend Blue Man Group – it was a complete success.  Everyone seemed to enjoy the day.  A report was also given of our attendance to the Better Connecticut Show.

Treasurer’s Report

Our regular account is now at zero balance.  Our special account is $27,773.09 after counting proceeds from Blue Man Group.

Staff Liaison’s Remarks

Mary gave out renewal forms to three commission members – Terri, Diane and Cathy to be returned as soon as possible.

Old Business

A discussion was held as to the amount we want to give the 4th of July Celebration this year.  We agreed (because of the economy and the fact that out budget is more limited than in past years) we would donate $250.

A discussion of our lack of advertising also ensued.  A suggestion was made to contact Cox Community Cable to advertise our events.  Betty will contact them and get needed information.

New Business

A report was made by Yvonne regarding a bus trip to Tanglewood to attend a Tony Bennett concert on July 21.  Everyone was in favor for hiring a bus for 45 people.  Yvonne will contact Barbara Kelly to hire the bus and then order the tickets.  Price of the tickets will be set once we know the cost of the bus rental.

Sam Dupuis gave some input to our meeting regarding Tobacco Valley Artists looking for venues to display their art. Perhaps we can partner an event with this organization in the future.

Also mentioned was Valley Rep. group here in the Town of Enfield.  Perhaps some interaction with this group could be considered in the future.

A suggestion was made that we share information with organizations from other towns as to what we are doing so that we can increase attendance at our local events.

A mention of checks not being cashed for a length of time was brought to our attention.  We agreed deposits will be made in a timely manner and no refunds will be issued.

Hal mentioned 7-Nations is interested in coming to perform for us again.  We will consider this and Hal will report what their fee presently is at our next meeting.

We were asked to come to the next meeting with definite ideas for the upcoming calendar year so that our agenda can be determined.

The meeting ended at 7:55 p.m. with a motion by Hal Grout  and seconded by Terri Jedynak.

Respectfully submitted
