ENFIELD CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION

Minutes of Regular Meeting

October 7, 2008

Enfield Room – 6:40 p.m.

Present

Diane Carlone, Barbara Kelly, Terri Jedynak, and Yvonne Wollenberg

Acceptance of Minutes

Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted by Terri Jedynak and seconded by Barbara Kelly.

Chairperson’s Remarks

Diane mentioned the trip to the Culinary Institute was a huge success. Do we want to do this trip again next year? It was agreed that we would wait a year or two before a return trip to the CIA.

Diane also reported we received a letter from Any Witbro thanking us for our participation in this year’s Family Day. The chalk art contest and bracelet making booth are always a success.

Diane also mentioned that according to the Freedom of Information Act the minutes must be posted on the website within seven days of our meeting.

Our November meeting will take place at Town Hall on November 4 in the Thompsonville Room.

Treasurer’s Report

According to Terri we have $7,912.00 in our account at this time with all bills paid to date.

Staff Liaison’s Remarks

Mary Keller not in attendance.

Old Business

We have learned that the Pumpkin Festival will be held this year on October 18 and we will donate to this event.

Jersey Boys performance – we have purchased 25 tickets and 11 are remaining. The cost of the ticket is $79 and the event is February 15, 2009 at 7:30 at the Bushnell.

Our Beer/Wine Tasting will take place on January 23, 2009 at the Suffield Country Club at 7:00 p.m. Tasting of beer from 7-7:30/7:30 wine tasting and food courses.

The cost is $25 per ticket. Our entertainment will be Judy Handler and Mark Levesque.

NewBusiness

A trip to Boston to the performance of Blue Man Group at the Charles Playhouse will take place in March or April of 2009. Yvonne will make these arrangements. We will purchase 30 tickets and sell for $60 each. Barbara Kelly will book the bus once final arrangements have been made.

Barbara has looked into The Diamonds – a singing group with a member of the original Diamonds still singing with them. We decided this is not quite what we are looking for and, therefore, it was voted down.

Terri mentioned some AARP trips that might be of interest to us. We could perhaps book similar trips – to Wrenthem for shopping, maybe a trip to Newport for a tour of one of the mansions and lunch, etc.

We will check into Wiffenpoofs for a possible performance in January 2009 at the Senior Center.

We will consider a trip to NYC next March or April for a day of whatever anyone wants to do (shopping, show, museums, etc.).

Diane will contact Amy Whitbro to see what the schools are doing that we can get involved in – maybe another Heritage Day.

The meeting ended at 7:35 p.m. with a motion by Barbara Kelly and seconded by Terri Jedynak.

Respectfully submitted

Yvonne Wollenberg,

Secretary
