ENFIELD CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of Regular Meeting
November 10, 2008 (date was changed from Nov. 4)
Thompsonville Room – 6:35 p.m.
Present
Diane Carlone, Barbara Kelly, Terri Jedynak, Mary Keller, Cathy Sperrazza and Yvonne Wollenberg
Acceptance of Minutes
Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted by Terri Jedynak and seconded by Barbara Kelly.
Chairperson’s Remarks
Diane mentioned the National Guard Band did not want to perform at our Senior Center in December and requested to perform at one of our schools. We have suggested perhaps the Elks on North Maple Street since we do not fill the auditorium at the school. They will get back to with their decision.
Treasurer’s Report
Terri reported that we presently have $6,429.12 in our account. Entertainment for the Library Festival of Trees and the Wine/Beer Tasting have not yet been paid for.
Staff Liaison’s Remarks
Mary Keller reported that the Shaker Pines Fire Department is in charge of the Torch Light Parade this year and that they have their own Santa. If this changes they will let us know. Also, if we must cancel this event due to weather, it will be a group decision and we will be informed a.s.a.p.
Mary also mentioned that the Recreation Department will be taking the following trips:
The Flower Show in Boston in March
Cherry Blossom trip to D.C.
Patriot’s Day Red Sox game
New York City trip with everyone on their own
A Casino trip
Old Business
Cathy reported Channel 3 had open dates of December 5, 12 and 19 for us to attend the Better Connecticut Show. We asked Cathy to get in touch with them again and see if we could get a date in January ’09.
A report on our Blue Man Group performance trip was made. The date is Saturday, April 25 at 2 p.m. and tickets will be $60. This includes the bus and ticket to the performance. Since we feel this will be a sell-out, 15 more tickets will be ordered. We will leave town hall at 8:00 a.m. and the bus will pick us up at the Charles Theater at 4:30 for return trip. This will give people a chance to shop or have lunch before the performance.
A review of up-coming events:
Festival of Trees at the Wadsworth, December 6 – 14 – Hartford
(we will trim a tree for this event)
Carol Sing and Torch Light Parade, December 7 – Town Green
Library Festival of Trees, December 11 – Main Library
National Guard Band, December 14 – to be announced
New Business
Our Beer/Wine Tasting will take place at the Suffield Country Club on January 23. Beer tasting will start at 7:00 p.m. and wine tasting will begin at 7:30 p.m. A sampling of foods will also be presented. Tickets are $25 for this event.
Diane called Amy Witbro to find out if the schools are having any events that we can get involved in. Amy is working on a Family Out Night and suggested that we may want to sponsor a local thespian group for entertainment on this evening.
Mary Keller mentioned that Tom Arnone is trying to raise money to increase the projects and activities geared toward the junior high and high school levels. This might be a project that might be of interest to E.C.A.C.
Diane is looking into a future date for the Wiffenpoofs to perform here in Enfield.
A possible trip to Canton for a cooking class was mentioned. Yvonne will bring information regarding this to our next meeting.
A reminder was made to be at Town Hall by 6:15 a.m. on Saturday for our NY trip. There will be no stopping on our way down but there will be a rest stop on our return trip.
The meeting ended at 7:40 p.m. with a motion by Cathy Sperrazza and seconded by Barbara Kelly.
Respectfully submitted
Yvonne Wollenberg,
Secretary
