ENFIELD CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION

Minutes of Regular Meeting

February 2, 2010

Enfield  Room  – 6:36 p.m.

Present

Diane Carlone, Cathy Sperrazza, Hal Grout, Mary Keller, Terri Jedynak, Barbara Kelly, Betty McGuire  and Yvonne Wollenberg

Acceptance of Minutes

Minutes of the previous meeting were accepted by Cathy Sperrazza and seconded by Barbara Kelly.

Chairperson’s Remarks

Diane mentioned we have three tickets left for “The Lion King” performance at the Bushnell.

To date, we have approximately 45 attending the Beer/Wine Tasting on February 13.

Treasurer Report

Terri reported that we have $20,164.00 in our treasury.

Staff Liaison’s Remarks

Mary mentioned that she referred our request for $12,000 to the council for our upcoming budget.

She also mentioned that Social Services  is getting tickets to see Bill Cosby at the Bushnell using the dial-a-ride for possible transportation.  Would we like to partner with this event?

Old Business

Barbara reported to us the information that the town of Suffield is sponsoring a trip to the Flower Show in Boston.  Perhaps we would like to hold off on our proposed Boston trip for another year to insure that we have good participation in this event.  She suggested a trip to Newport.

Yvonne will order 50 tickets to the James Taylor/Carol King concert at Tanglewood on July 3.  Barbara will contract a bus for this event.

NewBusiness

Diane will check into a trip to Newport on April 10 for a recital and royal tea at the Viking Hotel.  The cost of this event is $40.  We would have to add cost of transportation.

We received a message from Mary Palomba asking if we would be interested in sponsoring a poster contest for “Bullying in the Schools” program the community will be running.  We will sponsor this contest giving out 1st and 2nd place prizes for the Elementary School, Middle School and High School.  The gifts will be $25  and $15 gift certificates.    Hal will make up posters for us for this event.

Betty will proceed to check into a Christmas Concert with area church choirs and report back her progress.

Diane will look into cooking lessons at the culinary institute in Suffield as a possible event for us to sponsor.

Diane will also check into the performance of “Straight No Chasers” at the Bushnell.

Hal suggested the Red Hot Chili Pipers as a possible performance.  He will check their availability and get back to the commission with this information.
