ENFIELD BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE

Minutes of A Regular Meeting

Tuesday March 2

 

A regular meeting of the Enfield Beautification Committee was called to order at 7:02 PM on Tuesday March 2, 2010 in the Thompsonville Room of the Enfield Town Hall, 820 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT 0608

 

ROLL CALL

 

Present for the meeting were Chairman Colleen Ann Reidy, Alexandra Bozzuto, Jack Hartley, Darren Ketchale and Diane Tapp.

 

 

MINUTES

 

Darren Ketchale motioned to approve the minutes from the October, November and February meetings. Alexandra Bozzuto seconded the motion. Chairman Reidy and Mr. Hartley were in favor, Ms. Tapp obstained.

 

FINANCIAL REPORT

Chairman Reidy reviewed the FY budget stating there is $5,767.42 left for the 2009/2010 year.

 

FLAG PROGRAM

 

Mr. Hartley has an inventory of 76 flags in good/excellent condition, 105 flags in good/fair condition that can be mended and 105 flags in poor condition that will have to be properly destroyed. He will also need approximately 35 brackets for the flags. A rough estimate to replace the flags and brackets will be about $1050.00 and the flag account has $1831.00. Mr. Hartley stated he usually gets the flags up by armed forces day. Ms. Bozzuto questioned if any one helps him put the flags up. Mr. Hartley explained that the Department of Public Works helps with two trucks and three workers that go down the designated area putting up the flags. It takes about two days to put up all of the flags.

 

Garden Club

 

Ms. Bozzuto and Ms. Tapp stated there will be a meeting at the end of the month and there are not any new items to discuss at this time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

ADOPT-A-SPOT

 

Ms. Reidy stated she is putting some more attention to the Adopt-A-Spot program and would like to organize and add more pictures to the binder.

Ms. Tapp questioned if Chairman Reidy was able to find out any information in regards to who owns the property near the Post Office/Tony’s store on Route 5 to see if her business can Adopt it. Ms. Reidy stated she did not find out any information but suggested Ms. Tapp contact the Town Manager and Jeff McAlmond .

 

 

 

ADOPT A STREET

Chairman Reidy stated she is putting the  window box competition on hold for now.

Clean Sweep

Mr. Ketchale stated he is working toward the April 17th date. He sent out 100 donation request letters. They have about $300.00 in the account now, he will need to request $1200 for teeshirts and supplies.

 

Ms. Tapp suggested using Buttons for the participants in the clean sweep as a cost savings idea. Mr. Ketchale said the folks who sponser the Clean Sweep get to advertise on the teeshirts and the folks who participate in the event really like getting their teeshirt every year.

 

Ms. Bozzuto asked if anyone like Home Depot donated to the event. Mr. Ketchale stated they have in the past, but each year has become much less.

 

Mr. Ketchale explained that there are about 15-18 public sites such as parks, the library, post road, etc. where the groups meet and clean up the areas. A group from the boy scouts and the girl scouts has volunteered. He has not heard back from the voices of Thompsonville yet, but they usually participate.

 

Mr. Hartley made a motion to give $1200 to the clean sweep program, Ms. Bozzuto seconded the motion and all were in favor.

 

Memorials

 

Mr. Hartley talked to Dave Tuttle about taking the shrubs out of the Hazardville Honor Roll Memorial and replacing them with some other plants or flowers that can withstand the sun.

Mr. Hartley is going to take out the flagpole and put a larger one behind the Honor Roll. Mr. Hartley requested  $1500 for a 25’ flagpole with a lock and key. Chairman Reidy motioned to grant the $1500 to the flag program, Ms. Bozzuto seconded the motion, all were in favor.

 

New Business

 

Mr. Hartley suggested purchasing two ads in the Town of Enfield’s 4th of July paper and the Mount Carmel Society ad paper to advertise the Committee, the Flag program and Clean Sweep. Mr. Hartley will look into the cost and how to advertise in the Mount Carmel paper. Chairman Reidy will add ads to next months agenda and check the prices of the ads.

 

Mr. Hartley questioned if the Town was going to put the flower barrels back up this year.

 

Mr. Hartley Motioned to adjourn at 7:45 PM.

 

The next regular meeting will be held on Tuesday April 6th in the Thompsonville Room, Town Hall.
