Minutes of a Regular Meeting
Tuesday November 2, 2010
A regular meeting of the Enfield Beautification Committee was called to order at 7:10 PM on Tuesday November 2, 2010 in the Thompsonville Room of the Enfield Town Hall, 820 Enfield Street, Enfield, CT 0608
ROLL CALL
Present for the meeting were Chairman Colleen Ann Reidy, Alexandra Bozzuto, Diane Tapp, Darren Ketchale, Linda Percoski, Gary Turner and Jack Hartley arrived at 7:30 p.m.
MINUTES
Ms. Bozzuto motioned to approve the minutes from the October 2010 meeting, Mr. Turner seconded the motion. All were in favor.
FINANCIAL REPORT
There were no updates to the Financial report
FLAG PROGRAM
Mr. Hartley stated there are 110 flags up for Veteran’s Day. The committee has roughly 250 flags. There are 140 that are stored on Moody Road that are not in good condition. Mr. Hartley requested $1,000 for a new flagpole to go up behind Asnuntuck.
GARDEN CLUB
The Garden Club requested $2000 to be set aside for their various beautification related projects. Linda motioned to give the garden club $2,000, Mr. Turner seconded the motion, all were in favor.
The Garden Club looked into hiring prisoners for some of their larger, time consuming projects. They found out it was rather costly ($1.75/hour per prisoner & $250 for their supervisor). Chairman Reidy suggested contacting students who need to do volunteer work.
Gary Turner suggested adding some picnic tables and memorial benches to Deleo park and Freshwater Pond area. The town needs to finish taking the trees and weeds down, but the cleared areas have made the section lighter and safer.
ADOPT-A-SPOT
Chairman Reidy has received 4 letters back. She stated that she will need to make more phone calls and follow-ups and check out the one on Freshwater Blvd.
COMMITTEE WEBSITE
Mr. Turner questioned whether or not the town website has web space available to put the committee web pages. Chairman Reidy will ask the webmaster.
MEMORIALS
Chairman Reidy received a call from a resident near the Hazardville memorial that a neighbor had been parking cars on the lawn, blocking the memorial. The cars have since been moved.
Mr. Hartley motioned to adjourn at 7:45p.m., Ms. Bozzuto seconded the motion.
