ENFIELD ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME
September 8, 2009
Present: Tony Secondo, Scott Marek, Mike Cotnoir, Marian Dippel, Fran Slattery, Kris Couture, Jerry Wingen, Eddie Lapponese, Tim Jensen, Howie Bromage
Mike called the meeting to order at 7:05 p.m. Due to the fact that we immediately went into committee reports, the treasurer’s report was not read.
Committees:
Field Hockey Tournament – The committee members who were helping with the Jamboree reported that it was extremely successful monetarily. From the raffle to the 7 on 7 games, the overwhelming thought was one of excellent preparation for that day. 14 teams signed up to participate and coaches and players were quite positive in their comments. All were totally in favor of continuing this on a yearly basis and this time of year (late August) is a perfect time to do it. Our committee members said that enough money was raised to fund the scholarship this year and begin a fund for next year’s award too.
Banquet – Mike said the plaques, T shirts, wrestling trophies are in and Walt will again be doing the video this year and our slide show is ready also. Tim told us that the programs are ready and showed us an advance copy. He said that Konika Minolta is donating the programs this year and there is a slight change, actually an update in this year’s program and that is, pictures of the inductees will be in color as well as the “In Memoriam” page. This past year we lost the following: Leo Arnone, Ed Kukulka and two members of the 1983 Enfield hockey team, Kevin Meunier and Rob Hudson. Mike then told us who the presenters for that night would be: Cookie Bromage for Bob Lengyel, Bob Bromage for Jack Taylor, Brad Tweedlie for Kris Carvill O’Connor, Marian Dippel for Kim Bridge and at the moment Bill Newson is still in need of one. Kris said as per usual ticket sales are slow but usually pick up the last 10 days.
Miscellaneous – Howie brought up the need for more committee members and as soon as possible as they need to be on board by January in order to be eligible to vote. At that point Tim mentioned that Gary DiBattista expressed an interest in joining our group and was in the building. We invited him to our meeting and he then briefly explained why he wanted to serve on the committee. He then answered any questions the board had for him. After he left the room, a brief discussion, by the committee ensued, after which the board voted unanimously to have him join the committee.
Our October 21, 2009 get together at Astros at 6:30 p.m. will be to critique the September banquet.
There will be no November or December meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m.
