Guest Speaker

Motion to move guest speaker before approval of minutes by Stephen Moriarty , second by Virginia Higley.

Kat West from Sterling Energy discussed her company and their program with the group.  She explained that Sterling gets their power through 80% wind and 20% Hydropower.  Wind is purchased 50% national and 30% from the Northeast section of U.S such as upstate New York.  Sterling has a monopoly on the CT Hydro supply (they get most of CT from Eastern section – Dayville & Collinsville).  Kat went on to discuss enrollment incentives.  They pay $25.00 per Committee signup that we give them. The town gets credit of one point for each one we sign up.  Residential can be a partial enrollment.  Business can be 10, 20,30 or 40% of their bill enrollment in clean energy.  After we sign on to their program, Sterling will give us a form to fill out.  They can help design the form for us if we wish. Kat said pictures help on the form and showing which town building (perhaps library) will get the solar panel would also be helpful to encourage local citizens to sign up for clean energy.   Karen asked if the Town of Enfield needed to sign up for their power usage.  She was told, no that was not necessary to get the $25/sign up from citizens.

Stephen Moriarty asked whether Sterling had a Public Service Announcement we could use (modify if necessary) on the town TV station.  They don’t.  Kat suggested several sights such as Smartpower.org for suggestions on a non-profit TV spot. Stephen will check out those suggestions

After questions from the group Sterling was thanked for an informative presentation and left.
