Discussion of previous location on Rte. 190 – the dog park committee met with their consultant who identified several issues with the site:
- State road – would need local and state approval
- High traffic
- Would need a curb cut which meant moving back the telephone lines
- Cost prohibitive to the association
- Sent letter indicating such to the town, asking for a new site to be identified
Brainerd Park was identified as a possible location. However, the CT Water Company will be upgrading the site from a Level B to a Level A Aquifer which prohibits the site.
Town Farm Road – Transfer Station. There is a section of approximately 2 acres between the Level A Aquifer and the wetlands that has been identified as a possible location.
Vision Dr. – off of Phoenix Ave. The current owners of 90 Phoenix Dr. are looking to sub divide their property into 2 parcels. Parcel A is on the market to be sold. The owners would like to sell Parcel B if they can find someone to buy it. Otherwise they are considering donating it. Parcel B has approximately 65 acres. However, only 2 acres is developable with the remaining 63 acres consisting of wetlands. Staff will contact the realtor to see if the owner is willing to donate the property to the dog park. Staff will also look into the Industrial Park regulations for allowing a public recreational facility and what the wetland issues would be.
Department of Corrections – The Dog Park Committee has all ready contacted Rep. Karen Jarmoc regarding the use of state land near the prisons. They were declined at that time but were asked to pursue that again to see if anything ahs changed.
Site visits were set up for Thursday, September 24, 2009 at 10:00am. Those interested will meet at the end of Vision Dr. to view that site then travel to Town Farm Rd. to visit the site at the transfer station. |
