MINUTES OF A MEETING
September 24, 2009
CALL TO ORDER
A Meeting of the Enfield Public Safety Subcommittee was held in the Town Manager’s Conference Room, Enfield Town Hall, 820 Enfield Street, Enfield, Connecticut on Thursday, September 24, 2009. The meeting was called to order at 2 p.m.
ROLL CALL
Present were Councilmen William Ragno, Ken Nelson and William Edgar, Public Safety Director Chris Bromson, Chief Carl Sferrazza, Deputy Chief Anjo Timmerman, Town Manager Matthew Coppler and Attorney Kevin Deneen.
DISCUSSION
Police Dog
Chief Sferrazza presented costs that would be associated with staffing and the care and training for a new dog.
Frozen Positions
Chief Sferrazza presented recent statistics on activity in Thompsonville regarding narcotics and associated arrests.
Incentives were discussed for the hiring of new officers that are already certified, such as a signing bonus and increased pay. Attorney Kevin Deneen will review the idea of a signing bonus.
If an additional person were to be hired for the Police Department, it would have to be soon so as to get into the Academy by February.
Alarm Ordinance
Attorney Deneen gave an overview of the changes to the Code.
Cats
The budget does not currently allow for enforcement of feral cats.
