TOWN OF ENFIELD

LEGAL NOTICE - PUBLIC HEARING

MONDAY, JUNE 21, 2010

The Enfield Town Council will hold a Public Hearing in the Enfield Town Hall Council Chambers, 820 Enfield Street, Enfield, Connecticut on Monday, June 21, 2010 at 6:45 p.m. to allow interested citizens an opportunity to express their opinions regarding the proposed amendment to the schedule of fees for the transfer station usage and curbside bulky waste pick-up.

Chairman Kaupin announced the ground rules for the Public Hearing.

Ed Poremba, 7 Overhill Road

Stated his belief bulky waste pick-up is a good service, however, he believes a 100% increase such as this is uncommon during difficult economic times.  He noted he wouldn’t mind a small increase, but anything more than a $5.00 increase is too much.  He questioned the $120 permit fee for non-residents.  He voiced concern this increase will result in people dumping refrigerators and other items all over Enfield.

John Shlatz, 42 South Road

Stated he owns property on North Street, and someone dumped two truckloads of yard waste on his property.  He noted it costs practically nothing to deposit this material at the landfill.  He stated this is the fourth or fifth dumping in the last couple weeks, and he had the same problem last year.  He noted he has talked to the Police Department about this problem.

Margaret Jedziniak, 232 Abbe Road

Stated her belief this increase will defeat the purpose because she doesn’t believe anyone will pay for this unless they’re going in on it with their neighbors.  She stated her belief that anyone paying taxes in Enfield shouldn’t have to pay anything to dispose of material.  She pointed out people are doing the Town a favor by keeping trash off the streets.

As no one else wished to speak, Chairman Kaupin closed the Public Hearing at 7:11 p.m.
