MINUTES OF A PUBLIC HEARING
MONDAY, JULY 19, 2010
A Public Hearing was called to order by Acting Chairman Nelson in the Council Chamber of the Enfield Town Hall, 820 Enfield Street, Enfield, Connecticut on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 6:50 p.m.
ROLL-CALL – Present were Councilmen Bosco, Dumont, Edgar, Hall, Keller, Kiner, Lee, Mangini and Nelson. Councilmen Crowley and Kaupin were absent. Also present were Town Manager, Matthew Coppler; Assistant Town Manager, Daniel Vindigni; Town Clerk, Suzanne Olechnicki; Town Attorney, Kevin Deneen; Director of Social Services, Pam Brown; Director of Economic Development, Ray Warren
Acting Chairman Nelson read the notice of Public Hearing, which was published in the Hartford Courant on Friday, July 9, 2010 as follows:
TOWN OF ENFIELD
LEGAL NOTICE - PUBLIC HEARING
MONDAY, JULY 19, 2010
The Enfield Town Council will hold a Public Hearing in the Enfield Town Hall Council Chambers, 820 Enfield Street, Enfield, Connecticut on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 6:50 p.m. to allow interested citizens an opportunity to express their opinions regarding the conveyance of approximately 9.3 acres of land adjacent to the northern boundary of 175
Freshwater Boulevard.
Acting Chairman Nelson announced the ground rules for the Public Hearing.
Senator John Kissel stated he has been following this closely through communications with Mayor Kaupin and Ray Warren. He stated his belief anything the Town can do to help Eppendorf is a positive move. He stated his understanding the expansion will provide jobs in Enfield and North Central Connecticut. He noted this is a positive thing for Enfield. He stated he stands in strong support of Eppendorf’s efforts, and he also heard this may be the first step towards something more in the future.
Senator Kissel stated he learned that Eppendorf donated more than $70,000 worth of scientific instruments to the science classrooms in the Enfield school system. He pointed out Eppendorf is supportive of all different aspects of this town.
Karen LaPlante, Enfield Conservation Commission
Stated at the regular meeting of the Enfield Conservation Commission on July 13th, the Conservation Commission, acting under its responsibility to make recommendations regarding open space, recommends the Town of Enfield grant this request to swop the land for the Eppendorf parcel, and they find no adverse effects to conservation issues. She noted any impacts regarding the development would be addressed by the proper commissions.
