StoryCorps is a national oral history project intended to instruct and inspire people to record one another’s stories, and in doing so, share the experiences of history, hope and humanity inherent to each life. It is an independent nonprofit project whose mission is to honor and celebrate one another’s lives through listening. On May 7th and 8th the Enfield Public Library Board and the Rotary Club of Enfield will bring StoryCorps to the Enfield Community.
You can be a part of this wonderful event by picking up an entry form at the Enfield Public Library and applying to be a participant with a partner, or by nominating a participant to interview. You need only fill out the form and offer a brief summary of the story to be told. Submissions will be collected until the deadline of March 21st. Participants selected to record their stories will be notified by April 25th, 2008.
Since 2003, tens of thousands of everyday people have interviewed family and friends through StoryCorps. Each conversation is recorded on a free CD to take home and share, and is archived for generations to come at the Library of Congress. Millions have listened to these award-winning broadcasts on National Public Radio and the Internet.
