How to Download an e-book to an Amazon Kindle from Overdrive

 

Using Overdrive to Browse, Check-Out and Download.

 

1.      From the Enfield Public Library website, http://www.enfieldpubliclibrary.org, click on the download audio books, e-books and video link on the bottom right of the screen.

2.      Browse using the visual guide or the format links on the left side of the screen.

3.      Select a title by clicking on the Kindle version link.

·         If the title says “add to cart”, it is available to check out

·         If the title says “place a hold”, it is currently checked out, but you can place a hold on the item.

4.      My Cart screen will display your intent to check out. Items will stay in your cart for 30 minutes before they are returned to the “shelf”.  You can continue shopping or check out your title. Please be aware that patrons are limited to 4 checkouts. This includes audio, video, and e-book formats. Click Proceed to Checkout when you are ready.

5.      Select library and enter your Enfield Public Library barcode when prompted.

6.      You will get a check out confirmation screen to verify the title, date, and due date of the item(s). You may choose a 7-day, 14-day, or 21-day checkout.

7.      Click “Get for Kindle” link.

 

 

Downloading your e-book titles

 

8.      You will be redirected to Amazon.com, where you will have to log into your Amazon account. It is necessary to have an account before using the Kindle Books.

9.      Click “Get Library Book”.

·         For users with a wireless connection, you will have to have a Kindle device or Kindle app installed. The book is then sent to your device.

·         For users without a wireless connection, you will be required to choose a Kindle application before downloading.

10.  After choosing the appropriate Kindle application, simply follow the onscreen instructions to download the app.

11.  The Kindle book should open up into the Kindle software. From there, you can drag and drop folder on your Kindle.

 

 

How to Download an e-book to a Nook, NookColor or Sony e-Reader

 

Using Overdrive to Browse, Check-Out and Download.

 

1.      From the Enfield Public Library website, http://www.enfieldpubliclibrary.org, click on the download audio books, e-books and video link on the bottom right of the screen.

2.      Browse using the visual guide or the format links on the left side of the screen.

3.      Select a title by clicking on it.

·         If the title says “add to cart”, it is available to check out

·         If the title says “place a hold”, it is currently checked out, but you can place a hold on the item.

Downloading your e-book titles

 

1.      If this is your first time downloading an e-book, you will need to download the Adobe Digital Editions software onto your computer. There is a link to Adobe Digital Editions available on the Overdrive catalog front page or on the record of the item you just checked out.

2.      It is recommended that you sign up for an Adobe ID. This will allow you to activate your computer to interact with the portable e-readers. If using a Nook or NookColor, please note: it is also recommended that you use the SAME email address for Adobe as you did to register your Nook or NookColor.

3.      Click the link to install and follow the on-screen instructions.

4.      Once ADE is installed, click on the download button for the item you’ve checked out. The item will open up in Adobe automatically.

 

 

Connecting to a Nook or Sony e-Reader

 

1.      Once the title is downloaded into Adobe Digital Editions, it can be loaded onto a portable e-reader.

2.      Plug in your Nook or e-reader to the computer. You will see it appear in the left side of your Adobe Digital Editions library.

3.      Simply drag the newly downloaded title to your Nook or Sony e-Reader.

 

 

Returning e-books

 

1.      E-books are returned automatically on their due dates.

2.      You can return e-books before the due date by clicking on the small arrow on the book jacket in Adobe Digital Editions.
