What's Happening in May at the EPL?
Thursday May 1st at 7:00 pm Other Worldly Words SF/Fantasy Book Discussion The group plans to discuss The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. Lisa Sprague will facilitate and new members are always welcome.
Tuesday May 6th at 7:00 pm Nonfiction Book Club Bookseller of Kabul by Asne Seierstad. Mary Palomba will lead the group this month in discussing this astounding portrait of a nation recovering from war, undergoing political flux and mired in misogyny and poverty.
Wednesday May 7th at 7:00 pm StoryCorps Program Delegates from StoryCorps, the national oral history project that publishes interviews on National Public Radio, will take time out from interviewing and recording to explain their program. Expect to see the recording equipment and hear some interesting facts from the professionals who work with this amazing program on a daily basis. Come be inspired by the details of this endeavor to honor and celebrate one another’s lives through listening.
Monday May 12th at 7:00 pm and Thursday May 22nd at 2:00 pm Techno Topics iCONN: A Closer Look Join Cheryl Collins as she explores the "one-stop shopping" online searching of iCONN. This rich collection of resources allows users to search across several different resources like newspapers and magazines (including the Hartford Courant and the New York Times), history and science databases, genealogy records, e-reference books, biography sources, a health and wellness collection, as well as a business and company resource center.
Wednesday May 14th at 7:00 pm A Lady Alone: Elizabeth Blackwell First Woman Doctor in America, a one act play written by N. Lynn Eckhert, M.D. and performed by Linda Gray Kelley. Imagine trying to break into the medical field back in the 1840’s. Everyone seemed to be against this strong, bright woman becoming a doctor: medical schools, other doctors, hospitals, male patients, and other women. How did she do it? Her lifetime accomplishments were extraordinary. Linda Gray Kelly has graced our stage before with her superb acting talent, bringing us Spoon River Anthology, The Irish Washerwoman and Women of the Bible. Join us for a night of quality entertainment.
Friday May 16th at 2:00 pm Fun Flicks Join Cheryl Collins for Annie Get your Gun Frank Butler, handsome star of Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show, bags clay pigeons and ladies' hearts.
