Important Changes in SNAP

(formerly Food Stamp) Benefits

 

The program’s name has changed from Food Stamps to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

 

As of April 1, 2009 SNAP Benefits have increased 13.9%:

Single people no longer have a work requirement. Old rules disqualified many single people unless they were working

Income Guidelines have been increased to 185 % of the federal poverty level:

There is no longer an asset limit. This means it doesn’t matter how much your property and bank accounts are worth.

 

You do not need to repay this benefit. No lien will be placed on your house.
