Town Wide Leaf Program: 2009

Curbside vacuum bulk leaf collection will commence November 9th, 2009 and the entire town wide collection is scheduled to be completed on or about December 1st, 2009.

 

Crews will start in the southeast section of town, proceed northward through the eastern portion of town to the state line, then will proceed south ward through the western portion of town to completion. Each street will be collected only one time.

 

Please have leaves raked to the curbside prior to the start of your collection period. No provisions will be made for residents who fail to follow this procedure.

 

Residents may dispose of up to 10 containers of leaves in paper Kraft bags, or refuse barrels each week through yard waste collections (these collections continue through December). Barrels must have handles and CANNOT be larger than 35 gallons. Barrels or bags and their contents cannot weigh more than 50 pounds.

 

Plastic bags, including bio-degradable continue to be UNACCEPTABLE for collections.

 

The brown “tipper barrels” with a 250 pound weight restriction will be accepted.

 

Residents may buy, at a discount, Kraft Yard Waste Bags (packaged in Set’s of 5 bags) at the following locations:

 

1. The Department of Public Works Complex at 40 Moody Rd. - Monday through Friday 7:30 am to 3:30 pm

 

2. The Angelo Lamagna Activity Center-Recreation Office at 19 North Main St. - Mon through Fri 9:00 am to 5:00 pm

 

3. The Senior Center at 299 Elm St. Mon through Thur 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Fri 8:00am to 5:00pm

 

Paper Yard Waste Bags are also available for purchase at local retail outlets at full price.

 

Direct disposal at Transfer Station can be utilized by residents during its hours of operation. Permits will not be needed to dispose of the leaves at this facility, however proof of residency will be required. (A permit will be required for the disposal of any other materials.) Residents are reminded to keep contaminants such as plastic, glass, trash, etc. out of the leaves.

 

During The Period Of November 8th Through December 5th, 2009 Only The Transfer Station Hours Of Operation Will Be:

LEAVES ONLY SUNDAY AND MONDAY 

Monday – Friday 8:00 AM - 3:00 PM

Saturday 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Sunday 12:00 NOON - 4:00 PM
