  • EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:  Graduation from high school with business course background and five (5) years of progressively responsible secretarial work or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • HOURS OF WORK:  35 hours per week, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:  A highly responsible, confidential position involving a variety of administrative tasks related to the administration and day-to-day operation of the Town Manager’s Office.

SUPERVISION REQUIRED:  Works under the direction of the Town Manager or his/her designee.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Regular and punctual attendance; types or word processes correspondence, index cards, information on forms, documents, reports, lists, reference materials and statistics from copy, rough draft or own compiled information; maintains files and filing systems; files documents; answers telephone and directs callers; takes messages or answers procedural questions based on knowledge or rules and regulations pertaining to departmental activities; screens, greets, directs and announces visitors; performs wide range of posting tabulation and calculating; maintains complex records; may maintain an accounting system; keeps ledgers and balances accounts; processes forms and documents within generally established procedures; prepares materials for meetings and legal requirements; may assist in audit procedure; may attend meetings and prepare minutes of the meetings; maintains event calendars and calendars or logs of own tasks and office staff; schedules routing and special meetings and travel; composes routine and specialized correspondence and documents from notes, verbal instructions or standard text.

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Responsible for the development of the Annual Town Report; coordinates community service projects such as the United Way, blood drives, and other community projects; prepares related work as required.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption, attend to task for 45-60 minutes at a time, remember multiple assignments given over long periods of time, and understand the theories behind several related concepts.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY:  Considerable knowledge of modern office procedures, arithmetic and bookkeeping techniques, knowledge of modern office practices; knowledge of the operation of standard office machines; knowledge of business English; must be computer literate; considerable skill at typing; ability to communicate both orally and in writing; ability to perform administrative procedures; ability to plan and devise office procedures; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, customers and the public; proficient on computer.
