NETWORK MANAGER - IT DEPARTMENT
- SALARY: to $65,000

- EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field and five years of progressively responsible work experience and at least 8 years of IT experience which include at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours per week
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Highly technical position which is responsible to ensure that Information Technology infrastructure is in line with the Town's overall information technology strategy. This is a management position and draws on skills such as planning, organizing, leading, coordinating and forecasting (technical & budgetary).
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direction of the Director of Information Technology.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises technical staff, such as Information Technicians, TelCom Coordinator and Network Administrator.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The primary objective is to ensure that the IT network, network gear, network operating system, servers, clients, operating system software and client software are secure, scalable, and can respond quickly to changing requirements, including increased capacity and scalability; to oversee and establish backup and recovery systems and procedures; to maintain an infrastructure that can handle peak performance loads and to plan for future capacity needs; to manage resources to support and maintain IT hardware and software; to evaluate the ongoing application, system and network to increase IT efficiency and performance, reduce costs and enable new capabilities; to build systems that transfer information seamlessly across multiple platforms, operating systems and networks; installs and supports network and server hardware and software; ensures compliance with technical architecture and standards; resolves and prevents network/system problems and recommendations for corrective action; oversees the administration of user accounts and services; manages the addition, changes to and removal of system and network hardware and software; analyzes hardware and software requirements and makes recommendations to the Information Technology Director. Communicates the effects of any pending or active hardware and software corrective actions, enhancements and modifications as necessary; prepares and maintains written policies, procedures and standards applicable to does the administration, problem solving and support of the Network Operating Center; develops strategic plans for network evolution; interfaces with and coordinates vendor related support; performs any tasks requested or assigned by the Director of Information Technology or designee; regular and punctual attendance.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Must possess following: excellent knowledge of the client-server computing model and its application to information communication and management; knowledge of the operation of and experience managing network gear; experience with network operating systems; network protocols; TCP/IP; server based applications; excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to maintain effective relationships with other divisions, departments and employees. Must support team concept. Must be self-motivated, take initiative, grasp concepts and learn quickly. Must be able to work flexible hours as required. Must possess valid drivers' license.
