RATE OF PAY: $34,175 - $40,928
EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Bachelors degree with a major in counseling, sociology, psychology or some related field and two (2) years of experience in a counseling environment. Valid driver's license.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible position involving assisting the Youth Services Director in developing, implementing and evaluating programs and services involving the counseling of youths on a town wide basis.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the general direction of the Youth Services Director or designee.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: May supervise interns and other Division staff of a lower grade.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs any or all of the following duties: counsels individuals, families and groups; provides crisis intervention including after hours and on weekends; provides case management documentation and implements new and existing programs; acts as advocate for clients; works on community projects; keeps public informed of new programs and progress of existing programs; assists with public relations and provides public speaking engagements, interviews and provides support services for juvenile review board and court referrals; performs home visits; regular & punctual attendance.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Assists in the writing of grants; performs related work as required.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and to use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various office equipment. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, the ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, or airborne particles.
Performs highly complex and varied tasks requiring independent knowledge and its application to a variety of situations, as well as exercise of independent judgment.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Ability to establish communication with youth from varying backgrounds. Ability to carry out well-defined youth programs as laid out by the Youth Services Director. Ability to counsel youth and families. Ability and knowledge in group work. Knowledge of Connecticut Youth and Family Law. Ability to write well defined reports.
