CLERK TYPIST – EMS/POLICE DEPARTMENTS

SALARY RANGE: $25,986

EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma (GED) and one (1) year of office experience or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

The lead candidate will be required to authorize a release of personal information, however personal or confidential it may appear to be, including but not limited to: educational, financial/credit agencies and institutions, employment history, legal complaints, convictions, and motor vehicle history.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Responsible independent work involving the processing of confidential medical and billing forms for the EMS Department and general clerical work for the Police Department.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED: Works under the direct supervision of designated supervisors of the departments.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED: None.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Regular and punctual attendance; handles billing for the EMS Department in accordance with established procedures and processes run forms; maintains the confidentiality of this information pursuant to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA); operates a computer and a telephone set; answers inquiries on the phone; furnishes information to the general public in a courteous manner; operates mail equipment for all outgoing mail, sorts all incoming mail; processes purchase orders by logging, stamping, and filing; performs routine typing, word processing, filing and clerical tasks such as preparation and typing of permits, letters, licenses, records, examination material, reports, forms, and filing of the same; assists the public both over the counter and by phone; may receive and record various documents; receives checks and/or cash and prepare related reports, miscellaneous work as required.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs other related duties as necessary.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and talk or hear. May be occasionally required to walk; kneel; use hand to operate, finger, handle or feel objects or controls and reach with hands and arms. May occasionally be required to lift, push or pull up to 20 pounds. Hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption, attend to task for 45-60 minutes at a time, remember multiple assignments given over long periods of time and understand the theories behind several related concepts. May be exposed to dust, fluctuation in inside temperatures and electro-magnetic radiations in a computer screen. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately quiet.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY: Some knowledge of office procedures; ability to operate a telephone set and computer programs such as Word and Excel; ability to operate general office equipment; ability to deal with the public; clerical ability; ability to accurately follow oral and written instructions; ability to deal courteously and effectively with the General Public.
