POSITION VACANCY

ASSESSMENT AIDE

  • APPLICATION DEADLINE: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 12, 2005

  • SALARY RANGE: $32,688 - $34,303

  • HOURS OF WORK: 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

  • EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High School Graduate with some post graduate studies as well as successful completion of Assessment Law portion of CCMAS designation programs. Must have at least three years experience in assessment office and have demonstrated excellence in all areas of Assessment Clerk responsibilities. Must have knowledge of all exemption laws and procedures, assessment law, board of assessment appeals laws and the ability to perform transfers. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:Works under the direction of the Assessor.

 

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:May supervise clerical staff as directed by Assessor and instruct and review assignments delegated to such staff.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Performs data entry of new and improved properties and assists Assessor in maintenance of Sabre system for review and approval by Assessor; prepares, logs and tracks building permits and Certificates of Occupancy; must have expertise in exemption application process; must be capable of all functions enumerated in the Assessment Clerk description; will share with Deputy Assessor responsibility of more sophisticated tasks outlined in the Assessment Clerk description such as the multi-functions of transferring deeds and subsequent resulting updates to affected properties, to include but not limited to reading deeds, changes of ownership, identity of splits, re-combinations, re-subdivision, map preparation, pulling of declarations, removal of elderly for pro-rations and taking proper course of action to notify Assessor in a timely fashion of the aforementioned actions required; assists Deputy Assessor in timely completion of Sales Ratio forms for the State of Connecticut; assists public, as needed; ability to perform field data collection if necessary; thorough knowledge of and data entry ability for the CAMA system; ability to measure and list field data; regular & punctual attendance.

 

OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: Other duties as needed.

 

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS: Must be mobile and able to push, pull, lift objects up to 20 pounds. Must be able to perform such tasks as filing, writing, typing, using a calculator, and skills, which require hand-eye coordination such as using a typewriter or computer. Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods. Must be able to see objects closely, as in reading and typing a document; hear normal sounds with background noise, distinguish voice patterns and communicate through speech as in using a telephone and waiting on customers. Must be able to concentrate on fine detail with constant interruption and attend to tasks for 45-60 minutes at a time; remember multiple assignments given over long periods of time. Must be able to perform complex tasks requiring independent knowledge and its application to non-routine situations. May be exposed to dust, fluctuation in inside temperatures and electro-magnetic radiation as in computer screens.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITY, OBJECTIVE: Ability to use calculator; some knowledge of computers; follows written and verbal instructions; thinks logically; ability to deal effectively, cooperatively and tactfully with the general public and other employees; perform simple mathematic functions accurately; good knowledge of assessment laws and local ordinances; displays a positive attitude; must promote at all times, a team spirit within the Assessor's office as well as with other Town employees.
