Imagine Enfield is a celebration of Enfield. There will be a photo display of works of talented volunteer photographers. They have captured the history, beauty and excitement of the Town of Enfield. Have snacks and beverages as you visit with neighbors and enjoy the photos. This community event on Friday, April 10 from 7 to 9 p.m. is free and organized by Picture Enfield.
A new software that teaches you how to use the iPad has been installed on the iPads available in the Technology Center. Try it. It is called Sip & Swipe Café. You are invited to pour a cup of coffee or tea and start learning. Volunteers are available to assist on Tuesdays from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesdays from 3 to 4 p.m., Thursdays from 3 to 5 p.m. and Fridays from 3 to 5 p.m.
A new class on Mindfulness Meditation begins on Wednesday, April 1 for 4 weeks from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The resident fee is $12 and nonresident fee is $16 for the series.
No partner is needed for Salsa Lessons on Tuesday, April 7 and 14 from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. This class is provided free through Ballroom Fever and Enfield Cultural Arts Commission. Register for classes in the Senior Center office.
Are you eligible for benefits and you do not know it? Many people may be eligible for SNAP, Energy Assistance, Medicare Extra Help or other programs that they are not aware of. Make an appointment for a Benefits Screening at the Senior Center on Friday, March 20 with the staff of Neighborhood Services by calling the Senior Center office.
We are looking for a few people who really love technology to join our Technology Advisory Committee. This newly formed group would offer suggestions, help to keep the Technology Café running, and share the latest trends in computers, tablets, phones, etc. Geeks and nerds are encouraged to join! Sign up in the office or by sending me an e-mail. The first meeting is Wednesday, April 1 at 1 p.m.
Join Patty O’Brian from the Alzheimer’s Association on Thursday, March 26 at 6 p.m. for Effective Communication Strategies to explore how communication takes place when someone has Alzheimer’s. Learn to decode the verbal and behavioral messages delivered by someone with dementia, and identify strategies to help you connect and communicate at each stage of the disease.
Our Speed Dating Event is off to a good start! We have many adventurous, fun participants. As expected, we could use a few more men. If you know any single men that may be experiencing loneliness or just might want to try something interesting, encourage them to sign up. The Enfield Senior Center Speed Dating Event will be held on Thursday, April 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. Dessert and coffee will be served. There is no charge but registration is requested. We just added two more trips to our travel program. If you’re in the mood to laugh, join us for the “I Love Lucy” Live on Stage show at the Waterbury Palace Theater on May 31, 2015. The price is $123 per person. And, if you’re a Red Sox fan you won’t want to miss out on our 3-day trip to Baltimore, Maryland and Washington, DC, on June 9 – 11, 2015, to view the historic sites of these cities and attend two Red Sox/Orioles games at Camden Yards. The price of this trip is $527 per person/double occupancy. We still have seats available on our West Point Dress Parade trip, to view the famous Cadet Dress Parade conducted with great pomp and circumstance to the cadence of military music, on May 2, 2015, lunch is included at the Hotel Thayer.
