News Release for the Week of May 25, 2015

PRIME Fitness at the Enfield Senior Center, our gym, now accepts Silver Sneakers. Sliver Sneakers is a program offered through some insurances that allows you a gym membership for free. You can find out if you are eligible by calling your Medicare supplemental insurance company. PRIME Fitness is different than other gyms because a Fitness Assistant designs a program just for you. You receive one-on-one training on all of the equipment and can ask all of the questions you like in a non-judgmental, friendly atmosphere. Stop in or call 860-272-3554 for more information.

The Enfield Senior Center Bike Group is trying some new trails. On Monday, June 1 and Wednesday June 3, they will meet at Turkey Hill Rd. in East Granby. Back to Miller Road in Southwick MA for Tuesday June 9 and Friday, June 12. On Monday June 15 and Wednesday, June 17 they will be trying the Manhan Trail in East Hampton, MA and meeting at the Ferry Street trailhead. On Tuesday, June 23 and Friday, June 26 it is the Northampton Trail off of Exit 19 from 91N. All rides begin at 9:15 a.m. If you would like more information, please call Melissa at 860-265-2038.

Students from Fermi High School National Honor Society will be in the Technology Center at the Senior Center every Thursday from 3 to 5 p.m. Bring your own laptop, phone or tablet and ask any questions you would like. The students provide individualized instruction.

The Enfield Police Union and Police Benevolent Association will again sponsor the Enfield Police Senior Picnic on Friday, June 5 at noon at the Enfield Senior Center. It is always a wonderful afternoon of good food, good music and good friends. The Senior Center provides the entertainment. This year it will be The Voice star, Noah Lis. Free tickets are available at the Senior Center.

The movie “Wild” with Reese Witherspoon will be shown on Thursday, May 28 at 6 p.m. Come for a ham grinder and chips at 5 p.m. if you like. Tickets must be purchased in advance for $5 for dinner or for $2 at the door for the movie only.

Learn a variety of simple mindfulness practices in the 4–week session of Mindfulness Meditation beginning Wednesday, June 3 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. The fee for residents is $12 and nonresidents $16.

Blue Skies Big Band is a 19-piece orchestra featuring a male and female vocalist. These local musicians love the music they play and it shows! Listen to the fantastic sounds of notables like Glen Miller, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, and Benny Goodman. They also play more contemporary artists. Blue Skies Big Band will be in concert at the Enfield Senior Center on Friday, May 29 at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person. Dessert and coffee will be served.

• What is COPD? – Wednesday, May 27 at 1 p.m. Learn how to live well with COPD by managing and preventing flare ups, conserving energy, and using breathing techniques.
• Town of Enfield Waste Water Upgrades – Wednesday, June 3 at 1 p.m.
• Exercise and Lower Back Pain – Wednesday, June 10 at 1 p.m.
