News Release for the Week of July 20, 2015

This summer, there are many opportunities to become more technology savvy. Every Monday, we have a high school student, Dillon, who is available to help with technology from 12 to 2 p.m. Bring any questions about cell phones, iPads, Facebook, or computers for a one-on-one help session. We also have help sessions on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. or Wednesdays from 3 to 4 p.m.

Do you want to learn more about your iPad? A Beginner iPad class is being offered on Monday, July 20, August 10 and August 31 from 10 a.m. to noon. Register by calling the Senior Center office.

We are screening a humorous and heart-warming documentary, Cyber-Seniors, about a group of colorful seniors who discover the Internet with the help of teenage mentors. Celebrate our intergenerational technology assistance! This 74 minute movie is perfect for all generations. Bring friends and family, and especially teenage grandchildren, on Thursday, August 13 at 6 p.m. There is no charge for the screening.

The Enfield Senior Center Goldtones will be in concert at the Senior Center on Sunday, July 26 at 2 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $5 per person which includes a summer dessert. Enjoy the new selection of songs in the air-conditioned comfort on a hot summer day.

The movie “And So It Goes” with Michael Douglas and Diane Keaton will be shown on Thursday, July 30. Chinese food will be served before the movie at 5 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $5 per person. Tickets must be purchased in advance for the movie with dinner. If you would like to come for the movie only, you can pay $2 at the door. The movie begins at 6 p.m.

For 50 years, Medicare has been protecting the health and well-being of millions of older Americans. To commemorate and celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Medicare, join U.S. Representative Joe Courtney at the Enfield Senior Center on Friday, July 31 at 12:30 p.m. for cake, coffee and conversation. Make a reservation for lunch at 860-763-7428 or just stop in for dessert.

The perfect summer band is coming to the Enfield Senior Center on Friday, August 7 at 6 p.m. The Driftwoods Band is the premier Beach Boys tribute band in the area. We will have fun, fun, fun, listening to favorites like “Good Vibrations,” “California Girls,” “I Get Around,” and “Barbara Ann.” Tickets are on sale for $7 per person. Dessert and coffee will be served at the break.

The Community Café is having a picnic! On Wednesday, August 12 at noon, join us for a picnic meal of Frankfurter with Baked Beans, Hamburger on a Roll, Corn on the Cob, Watermelon, and Homemade Cookies and Milk for dessert. Call the lunch line at 860-763-7428 to make your reservation for lunch. After a delicious meal, T-Bone takes the stage. Tom “T-Bone” Stankus brings his upbeat, funny, musical performance that will have you clapping and singing along. A $2.50 donation is requested for the lunch and there is no charge for the entertainment. Come to one or both of these fun summer activities.

We still have a few seats left for our day-trip to Newport, RI on Monday, August 24, 2015. Enjoy lunch at the Mooring Restaurant followed by a 1-hour narrated harbor cruise and free time to explore the Newport harbor waterfront area. The cost of this trip is $113 per person. Register at the Senior Center front desk.

We are offering a trip to New York City to the American Museum of History on Saturday, September 26, 2015. Spend the day exploring one of the world’s greatest museums. You can stand under a 94 foot long blue whale, the largest animal that ever lived and marvel at the most important collection of dinosaurs in the world. Walk through a central African rainforest, feel the rumble of an earthquake or explore the exhibition of the inside story of the brain. The cost of this trip is $81 per person. Sign-up for this trip begins on Friday, July 24, 2015 at 10 a.m.
