News Release for the Week of August 10, 2015

All week long I have heard people saying how fast the summer is going. Our September and October class registration for Enfield residents began on Tuesday, August 11. Non-resident registration begins Tuesday, August 18 at 8:30 a.m. We have some interesting new classes, events and services coming in September. If you are a golfer, you are going to want to look for more details about our Golf Fit class designed specifically for keeping you playing the game, injury free. Want to laugh? It is good exercise, you know. We have a class that simply costs “one good joke.” There are Flu Clinics, a Cane, Walker and Wheelchair Inspection and more. The September newsletter will be out soon with all of the details.

State Senator John Kissel and Department of Consumer Protection Commissioner Jonathan Harris will be at the Enfield Senior Center on Thursday, August 13 at 1 p.m. Senator Kissel will give a brief overview of the legislative session and any act affecting seniors. Commissioner Harris will speak about fraud and answer any questions you have. Mark your calendars for this very informative discussion.

We are screening a humorous and heart-warming documentary, Cyber-Seniors, about a group of colorful seniors who discover the Internet with the help of teenage mentors. Celebrate our intergenerational technology assistance! This 74 minute movie is perfect for all generations. Bring friends and family, and especially teenage grandchildren, on Thursday, August 13 at 6 p.m. There is no charge for the screening.

Movie and Pizza Night is Thursday, August 20 featuring the movie “The Second Best Marigold Hotel.” Pizza is served at 5 p.m. and the cost is $5 for movie and pizza. Tickets for the movie only can be purchased at the door for $2. The movie begins at 6 p.m.

Dance to the sounds of keyboardist Richie Mitnick on Friday, August 21 at 2 p.m. The cost is $3 at the door.

Do you want to learn more about your iPad? A Beginner iPad class is being offered on Monday, August 31 from 10 a.m. to noon. Register by calling the Senior Center office.

We are offering a trip to New York City to the American Museum of History on Saturday, September 26, 2015. Spend the day exploring one of the world’s greatest museums. You can stand under a 94 foot long blue whale, the largest animal that ever lived and marvel at the most important collection of dinosaurs in the world. Walk through a central African rain forest, feel the rumble of an earthquake or explore the exhibition of the inside story of the brain. The cost of this trip is $81 per person.
