News Release for the Week of October 12, 2015

The Line Dance Jamboree is a lively event involving many line dancers learning new dances and performing sharing their talent. All line dancers are invited to join the event on Thursday, October 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. Dance away the afternoon and stay for a grinder. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person and must be purchased in advance.

Men’s Strength Training is a new class that has just been added to the fall schedule. Beginning Wednesday, November 4 and going until December 23, for 7 classes, from 6 to 6:45 p.m., men will have an opportunity to strengthen all muscle groups in a guided workout. Improve your joint health, balance and muscle tone. The cost of the class is $21 for residents and $28 for nonresidents.

Superintendent of Enfield Public Schools Dr. Jeffrey Schumann invites all community older adults to have a complimentary lunch with him on Wednesday, October 14, at noon, in the Senior Center Community Café for a Listen & Learn Event. The menu is Orange Juice, Peach BBQ Chicken Leg, Potato Salad, Corn Cobbette, Homemade Biscuit and a Homemade Cookie. Please make a reservation by calling 860-763-7428. Dr. Schumann will also host a conversation about the Enfield Public Schools after lunch, at 1 p.m. Bring your questions and comments to share with Dr. Schumann. The Superintendent has done this for the last several years and older adults in the community have been active participants in the conversation. Thank you for lunch and including the Senior Center, Dr. Schumann!

Ageless Grace™ is a cutting-edge brain fitness program based on neuroplasticity that involves all 5 areas of the brain and simultaneously addresses all 21 physical skills needed for lifelong optimal function. This exercise will help you to remain strong and flexible as you age. These exercises are based on everyday movements that are natural and focus on healthy longevity of the body and mind. These classes are coming to the Enfield Senior Center in November. Take a free trial class on Monday, October 26 from 2:15 to 3 p.m. Register by calling the Senior Center office.

The Enfield Single Seniors meeting on October 21, at 6 p.m., will be a Pot Luck Dinner at the Senior Center. Bring your favorite dish and your own dinnerware. New members are welcome.

Flu Clinics will be held on Thursday, October 15, Friday, October 16 and Thursday, October 22 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. No appointment is necessary.

Beatles tribute band, Beatles for Sale, is an award-winning, New England-based group of talented musicians. We are so fortunate to have this amazing musical group at the Enfield Senior Center on Friday, October 23 at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person including coffee and dessert. They always draw a crowd and are a favorite of Beatles enthusiasts.

Try something different. Come to see a magic show on Thursday, October 15 at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale for The Magic of Brian Miller for $7 per person. Dessert and coffee will be served.

Join us as we venture to Foxwoods Resort Casino and Theater to celebrate Veterans Day with the music of the 4TROOPS on Wednesday, November 4, 2015. 4TROOPS is a new, powerful, vocal group comprised of four seasoned singers who are also United States combat veterans who served on the front lines in Iraq and Afghanistan. Cost: $80 per person. Package Includes: Reserved Seating in the Fox Theatre, $10 Slot Play, Free Lunch Buffet, and Gratuity for Driver & Escort. We’re also off to the Goodspeed Opera House on November 18, 2015 to see a classic holiday show “A Wonderful Life”. Prior to the show, lunch is served at the historic Gelston House restaurant, located next door to the Opera House. Cost is $149 per person. A Collette Vacations Specialist will be visiting us on Monday, October 19, at 3:00 p.m., to present details on the “Discover Switzerland, Austria and Bavaria” trip, scheduled for September 14 -23, 2016. This is a great opportunity to gather information on this wonderful trip.
