News Release for the Week of December 7, 2015

I am hoping for a mild winter, but in the event that we have snow, it is good to remind everyone of our cancellation policy. The Community Café and all classes are canceled when the Enfield Public Schools are closed due to snow. If there is a weather delay, however, our schedule goes on as usual. Special events are rescheduled if there is especially bad weather. Information about closings can be found on WFSB, Twitter and Facebook. You can always call the Senior Center if you are not sure.

Kelly, our Monday evening Zumba Gold instructor, wants to give back to the Enfield Senior Center. She would like to offer a free Zumba Gold class on Wednesday, December 30 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. to anyone who would like to attend. Also, if you prefer Chair Zumba Gold that free class will be at 11:30 a.m. Current participants, former participants, or anyone who would like to try Zumba Gold are welcome. It is free! Join Kelly to dance in the New Year.

Do you have some extra time to help with the Senior Minor Home Repair Program? This dedicated group helps older adults in Enfield with small tasks like fixing door locks, cleaning out gutters, and taking air conditioners in or out. You must be 18 years or older and complete an application available at the Senior Center. After the background check and an interview, you will volunteer one day per week with the team. Many people have benefitted from this valued service that helps older adults to stay in their home.

Celebrate New Year’s Eve at the Enfield Senior Center at noon. Noon Year’s Eve begins at 8:30 a.m. with a breakfast gathering in the Dining Room. We will have Meditation and Chair Yoga classes to start the New Year fresh. Play cards, participate in a craft, or just have a cup of coffee. Lunch will be served at noon with a special dessert and a bubbly toast. Reservations are required for lunch by calling 860-763-7428. We will get a head start on welcoming 2016!

Our January and February classes can be found in the December issue of Front & Center available in the Senior Center office. Registration for January and February classes begins on Tuesday, December 8 at 8:30 a.m. for residents and Tuesday, December 15 at 8:30 a.m. for nonresidents. Purchasing a membership to Prime Fitness at the Enfield Senior Center, tickets to an event, or a buying a series of classes makes a wonderful holiday gift.

On Friday, December 11, you can dance to the sounds of keyboardist Richie Mitnick at our Ballroom Dance beginning at 2 p.m. Tickets are $3 at the door and include a snack at the break.

We have some wonderful day-trips planned for the start of next year. We will welcome spring with a trip to the Boston Flower Show. Join us on March 26 to see “Motown the Musical” at the Bushnell or on April 12 to see “One Slight Hitch” at the Newport Playhouse. We also have a special trip planned to the Metropolitan Opera to see “Otello” on April 23.
