News Release for the Week of December 14, 2015
This is a good time of year to think about what you would like to do with the next phase of your life. If you are new to retirement or just making changes, this AARP event can help. AARP Life Reimagined can mean new passions to pursue, work that is rewarding, great people to connect with, and a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle. Take advantage of this thought-provoking approach on Wednesday, December 23 at 1 p.m. Even though it is a busy time of year, take an hour out for you.
October Kitchen is a new meals delivery service. Find out how it works, what it costs and taste the food on Wednesday, December 16 at 1 p.m. Participants must register in advance.
Kelly, our Monday evening Zumba Gold instructor, wants to give back to the Enfield Senior Center. She would like to offer a free Zumba Gold class on Wednesday, December 30 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. to anyone who would like to attend. Also, if you prefer Chair Zumba Gold that free class will be at 11:30 a.m. Current participants, former participants, or anyone who would like to try Zumba Gold are welcome. It is free! Join Kelly to dance in the New Year.
Do you have some extra time to help with the Senior Minor Home Repair Program? This dedicated group helps older adults in Enfield with small tasks like fixing door locks, cleaning out gutters, and taking air conditioners in or out. You must be 18 years or older and complete an application available at the Senior Center. After the background check and an interview, you will volunteer one day per week with the team. Many people have benefitted from this valued service that helps older adults to stay in their home.
Celebrate New Year’s Eve at the Enfield Senior Center at noon. Noon Year’s Eve begins at 8:30 a.m. with a breakfast gathering in the Dining Room. We will have Meditation and Chair Yoga classes to start the New Year fresh. Play cards, participate in a craft, or just have a cup of coffee. Lunch will be served at noon with a special dessert and a bubbly toast. Reservations are required for lunch by calling 860-763-7428. We will get a head start on welcoming 2016!
Do you have questions about programs like Tax Relief or Energy Assistance? Not sure where to turn for help when you are struggling to pay bills or unsure if you qualify for assistance? The staff of Neighborhood Services can help! Neighborhood Services knows that getting accurate information can be difficult and that many older adults are unaware of valuable programs and services they might be eligible for. For example, did you know that if you make less than $2776 per month you might qualify for help with your winter heating costs? Or that if you make less than $2413 per month you can get help with your Medicare costs such as premiums and prescriptions? Based on your income, you might even be eligible for a credit on your property taxes or even get a rebate if you are renter! No matter what the circumstances are, Neighborhood Services staff will be there to help point you in the right direction. Please schedule an appointment during our hours at the Senior Center on the 1st and 3rd Friday of every month.
