Are you interested in a part-time or full-time job? Do you know someone who is? The Enfield Senior Center 50+ Employment Expo will be held on Saturday, February 27 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Companies including Big Y Foods, Comfort Keepers, Cabela’s, Home Helpers of North Central Connecticut, Health New England, Six Flags New England, and Walgreens Distribution Center, will be on hand to take your applications and discuss available positions. The Technology Center will be open with volunteers to help you apply online or assist you with setting up a Linkedin profile. What a great chance to meet employers looking to hire mature workers! Stop in, have a cup of coffee, complete applications and have a conversation directly with an employer.
Join us for the movie “The Intern” on Thursday, February 18. Come at 5 p.m. for pizza and the movie starts at 6 p.m. The cost is $5 for movie and a meal and the ticket must be purchased in advance. If you just want to drop in for the movie, you can pay $2 at the door.
This month’s Ballroom Dance is on Friday, February 19 at 2 p.m. Dance to the sounds of Richie Mitnick on the keyboard and have a snack at the break for $3 per person at the door. Great exercise with nice people!
We are offering something new that you may want to try. Reiki is an ancient Japanese method of healing using energy believed to improve just about any aspect of life from physical health and emotional well-being to stress reduction and mental clarity. You are fully clothed during a session and, different than massage, no touch or a light touch is applied. Reiki is a popular means of relaxing, calming and healing. Stacey Ford, Reiki Master, will be offering this service on Thursdays from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The cost is $25 for a 25 minute session. Please make an appointment for a Reiki session by calling the Senior Center office.
Community Health Center, Inc. will provide dental hygiene at the Senior Center for $30 or services at 100% covered by HUSKY/Medicaid. Make an appointment for Monday, February, 29 through Friday, March 4 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. by calling the Senior Center office.
Celebrate Valentine’s Day with the sounds of The Platters. On Friday, February 12 at 6 p.m., Tony Funches and his full band, perform hits including, “Smoke Gets in Your Eyes,” “Only You,” and “The Great Pretender.” A special dessert will be served at the break. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person.
Springtime flowers will be in bloom at the Boston Flower Show on March 18, 2016. Our day-trip to Boston will begin with lunch at Maggiano’s. Maggiano’s is well-known for their Italian-American fare. After a delicious lunch, we’re off to the flower show to enjoy colorful displays of flowers and beautiful landscapes. After the show, we’ll head over to Quincy Market for some free-time to enjoy the unique shops and get something to eat before heading home. Reservations are being taken at the Senior Center for $108 per person.
