News Release for the Week of June 13, 2016

Once a year we pause to honor our volunteers. We are thankful every day, however. The Senior Center volunteers help the staff to do what we could not do alone. Although our volunteers are too numerous to mention by name, we want you to know how much we appreciate your help. We are honored to have you as a member of our team.

If you missed “Bridge of Spies” when it was in the movie theater, you may want to catch it on Thursday, June 23 at the Senior Center. Buy a ticket in advance if you would like to have a turkey grinder at 5 p.m. The ticket is $5 for dinner and a movie. If you would just like to enjoy the movie in the air-conditioned Senior Center, the cost is $2 at the door.

The first sign up date for July and August classes is Tuesday, June 14, at 8:30 a.m., for residents and Tuesday, June 21, at 8:30 a.m., for non-residents. All classes are listed in the June edition of Front & Center, the Enfield Senior Center newsletter.

The Truck Stop Troubadours bring their Solid Gold Country Show to the Enfield Senior Center on Friday, June 17 at 6 p.m. This popular four-piece band is bringing special guest Vicky St. Pierre with them for this performance of covers from the golden age of country music. Dessert and coffee will be served. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person. Last time the Truck Stop Troubadours played at the Senior Center, they were a sellout. Get your tickets early.

The Enfield Senior Center Goldtones have put together a delightful show to be held on Thursday, June 16 at 6 p.m. Dessert will be served following the performance. Tickets are on sale for the Goldtones Concert for $5 per person.

Meals-on-Wheels is looking for a few more volunteers. If you have some time to help with this important program, stop and pick up an application at the front desk.

Spend the day in the Berkshires of Massachusetts on Friday, July 8, 2016. Join us as we explore some of the “Berkshire’s Hidden Gems”. Our first stop will be at the Berkshire Botanical Garden. These public gardens are both functional and ornamental and are among the oldest in the United States. A great meal and relaxation will be enjoyed at Michael’s Restaurant. We’ll also tour Chesterwood, which is the country home, studio and gardens of Daniel Chester French who is the foremost sculptor of public monuments. Some of his works include: Minute Man, and Abraham Lincoln for the Lincoln Memorial. Cost: $99 per person. Reservations are being taken at the Senior Center Front Desk.
