News Release for the Week of September 12, 2016

Thank you to all of our Enfield Firefighters for grilling and serving a great lunch for older adults in Enfield. We appreciate all of the hard work that went into making this a perfect day. We are thankful for all you do to make this community great.

Our newest Zumba Gold class begins on Wednesday, September 14 at 6:15 p.m. You can register for the series before class on Wednesday, if you like. Have fun and get fit. The fee is $28 for residents and $35 for nonresidents for the 7 sessions.

There is interest in starting a Senior Hiking Group. If you would like to join a group of senior hikers on some local trails, come to the Senior Center on Thursday, September 29 at 10 a.m. for an initial meeting. At the meeting we will determine where the hikes will be and what day and time. The discussion will also include proper footwear and gear.

Dance to the sounds of Richie Mitnick on keyboard one Friday afternoon each month. Join us on Friday, September 16 at 2 p.m. for ballroom dancing and a snack at the break for $3 per person at the door.

If you’ve always dreamed of visiting beautiful Ireland, we have a great deal for you! Our eight-day trip, on March 22 to 29, 2017, combines fabulous accommodations, stunning scenery, sumptuous food and non-stop flights from Bradley International Airport. The price of this trip is only $2499 per person/double occupancy. An informational trip presentation for the “Irish Splendor” trip will be held on Thursday, September 15 at 1 p.m. Learn more about this excursion and have all your questions answered.

The Enfield Senior Center is showing the movie “Eddie the Eagle” on Thursday, September 15. The cost is $5 for the movie and Chinese dinner and tickets must be purchased in advance. Dinner is served at 5 p.m. and movie begins at 6 p.m.

You may want to take advantage of the upcoming free screenings at the Enfield Senior Center. On Tuesday, September 20, Evergreen Health Care Center is offering individualized Balance Screenings from 10 to noon. Free Vision Screenings are offered on Tuesday, September 27 from 9 to 11 a.m. Call the Senior Center office for an appointment. Walk-ins are accepted as time is available.

The award-winning Beatles tribute band, Beatles for Sale, is returning to the Enfield Senior Center for another exciting performance. Tickets are available for the Friday, September 23, 6 p.m. show. This band of talented musicians was drawn together by their love of Beatles music and the desire to keep the music alive. The $7 ticket price includes coffee and dessert. For Beatles fans, you do not want to miss this show.

Day trips are available for sale on or after the trip sign-up date.
• “CT Rail & Sail”, Essex Steam Train, Becky Thatcher Riverboat, Lyman Orchards, September 23, 2016. Cost: $107 per person.
• National September 11 Memorial Museum, November 6, 2016. Cost: $81 per person. Trip sign-up date is September 16, 2016, 10 a.m.
• “A Hartford Christmas”, Wadsworth Atheneum’s Festival of Trees & the Governor’s Mansion, December 2, 2016. Cost: $94 per person. Trip sign-up date is September 30, 2016, 10 a.m.
• “Let’s Make a Little Christmas, Phil Vassar at Fox Theatre and Foxwoods Casino, December 7, 2016. Cost: $90 per person. Trip sign-up date is October 7, 2016, 10 a.m.

Multi-Day Adventures
Reservations are being accepted for multi-day adventures.
• Irish Splendor - Ireland, March 22 – 29, 2017. Cost: $2499 pp/double (rate expires 9/23/16).
• The Wonders of Italy, April 25 – May 5, 2017. Cost $4899 pp/double.
• Alaska Land & Cruise, June 11 – 23, 2017. Cost: $4599 pp/double/plus taxes.
• Iceland, October 19 -25, 2017. Cost: $2999 pp/double.
