Enfield Public Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jeffrey Schumann and Enfield Town Manager, Bryan Chodkowski will host a Listen and Learn Event on Wednesday, October 12 at the Enfield Senior Center. All older adults are invited for a free lunch at noon and the discussion will follow at 1 p.m. Lunch reservations can be made by calling 860-763-7428. What a wonderful opportunity to have your voice heard about the future of our schools and the Town of Enfield.
The Enfield Garden Club has planted a second generation descendant of the Charter Oak near the Senior Center gazebo. The seedling was grown from an acorn taken from the scion of the Charter Oak in Bushnell Park. The Charter Oak is a white oak that was the hiding place of the charter that became Connecticut’s Constitution. We are proud to have this well-known tree growing on the Enfield Senior Center grounds.
Feldenkrais, developed by Moshe Feldenkrais, uses gentle movement and focused attention to improve movement and daily function. Explore strategies to make moving fun again. Floor work is required. Take this trial session to see if this is for you on Mondays from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The class is $16 for residents and $20 for nonresidents for 4 classes. Register in the Senior Center office.
Brian Nyberg OTR/L LNHA, from Parkway Pavilion, will be at the Senior Center on Tuesday, October 11, from 9 to 10:30 a.m,. and every second Tuesday of the month to answer your therapy related questions. If you are having any concerns about arthritis, exercise or aches that will not go away, make an appointment for a consultation. Ask the Occupational Therapist is free, but an appointment is requested. Please call the Senior Center office to schedule your complimentary appointment.
Registration for November and December classes begins on Tuesday, October 11 at 8:30 a.m. for residents. Nonresident registration begins on Tuesday, October 18 at 8:30 a.m. Pick up your October newsletter at the Senior Center for detailed information.
Once again, FullKrew is coming to the Senior Center for a rock’n’roll dance party. They are one of our favorite dance bands. When they have been here before the dance floor has been full all night long. Hold Friday, October 14 at 6 p.m. open on your calendar for the FullKrew Dance Party. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person and includes dessert.
There is interest in starting a Senior Hiking Group. If you would like to join a group of senior hikers on some local trails, come to the Senior Center on Thursday, September 29 at 10 a.m. for an initial meeting. At the meeting we will determine where the hikes will be and what day and time. The discussion will also include proper footwear and gear.
Just a reminder that the sign-up date for the Holiday in Hartford day-trip, on December 2, 2016, will be held on Friday, September 30, 2016, at 10 a.m., in the Senior Center Dining Room. This trip will explore the Governor’s Mansion, and the annual Festival of Tress at the Wadsworth Atheneum with lunch at Carbone’s Restaurant. It will be a fun day out on the town in Hartford. Cost: $94 per person.
