News Release for the Week of October 17, 2016

As you know, the flu is very contagious and can be severe for those 65 years of age and older. As we age, our immune system weakens. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, getting an annual flu vaccination is one thing you can do to maintain your health. The Enfield Senior Center will host a Flu Clinic on Friday, October 21 from 9 to 11 a.m. provided by Visiting Nurse & Health Services. They will accept Medicare Part B, Anthem, Connecticare, Aetna, Healthy CT or $35. They do not accept United Healthcare or Cigna. Please consider getting your flu shot on this day or from your health care provider.

How Do You Start the Conversation with Your Loved One? is a discussion designed to help adult children, family members and trusted caregivers initiate a conversation around health, legal, financial, and end-of-life issue. The panel will include Henry Weatherby, JD, ChFC, CEBS of the law firm Weatherby & Associates, Jacqueline Abramczyk, LMSW, Life Care Coordinator, Weatherby & Associates, Sean Stevens, Funeral Director, Leete-Stevens Family Funeral Homes, Jarrett F. Solomon, CFP, CIMA, Director of Connecticut Wealth Management Firm, and Peter DiMaria, Owner of Home Helpers of North Central CT and Western MA. Please call the Senior Center to reserve a seat for this Thursday, October 27, 6:30 p.m. panel discussion.

Our first showing of TED Talks in September was very successful. Join us this month as we watch a short TED Talk and discuss it after. On Thursday, October 20 at 10:30 a.m., the topic is Gratitude and Wonder with photographer Louie Schwartzberg. Give yourself an hour to learn and share your thoughts about this topic.

The Line Dance Jamboree is always something to see. Line Dancers from the area come together to share their talent and learn new dances. Tickets are on sale now for $7 per person for the Thursday, October 20, 1 p.m. event and includes an afternoon of line dancing and a grinder. Tickets must be purchased in advance.

The Corvettes Doo Wop Revue is sold out. Tickets are on sale for the Knightsmen Band in Concert on Friday, November 18 at 6 p.m. The Knightsmen perform well known hits of the 50s and 60s. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person.

The Enfield Culture and Arts Commission is sponsoring an event at the Enfield Senior Center on Sunday, October 23 at 2 p.m. Acclaimed pianist Paul Bisaccia will play great Gershwin standards in celebration of the new Tony Award winning Broadway musical, An American in Paris as well as other favorites. Tickets for Paul Bisaccia: An American in Paris are available for $7 per person at the Recreation office, Senior Center, and at the door.

Day trips are available for sale on or after the trip sign-up date.
• “A Hartford Christmas”, Wadsworth Atheneum’s Festival of Trees & the Governor’s Mansion, December 2, 2016. Cost: $94 per person.
• “Let’s Make a Little Christmas, Phil Vassar at Fox Theatre and Foxwoods Casino, December 7, 2016. Cost: $90 per person.
• Beautiful – The Carole King Musical at the Bushnell, January 21, 2017. Cost: $149 per person. Trip sign-up date is November 18, 2016, 10 a.m.

Multi-Day Adventures
Reservations are being accepted for multi-day adventures.
• Irish Splendor - Ireland, March 22 – 29, 2017. Cost: $2749 pp/double
• The Wonders of Italy, April 25 – May 5, 2017. Cost $4899 pp/double.
• Alaska Land & Cruise, June 11 – 23, 2017. Call the Senior Center for availability and pricing.
• Iceland, October 19 - 25, 2017. Cost: $2999 pp/double.
