News Release for the Week of October 31, 2016
The Enfield Senior Center has a new Secretary and Trip Coordinator! Sue Roche transferred from the Enfield Police Department to the Senior Center and has already started her new job. Sue lives in Somers and has two daughters. She is enthusiastic, warm and friendly. Please join me in welcoming Sue.
A free Diabetes Self-Management Workshop is offered once a week on Mondays beginning October 31 through December 5 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. You will learn about what to eat, footcare, low and high blood pressure, tips for dealing with stress and more. Please call the Senior Center to register.
The Knightsmen Band is in concert on Friday, November 18 at 6 p.m. The Knightsmen play popular tunes of the 50s and 60s and are very engaging. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person and includes dessert and coffee at the break.
Our annual Holiday Craft Fair and Bake Sale is coming soon. On Saturday, November 5, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. have a pancake breakfast to support the charitable works of the Enfield Lions Club and then start your holiday shopping. Handmade scarves, hats, mittens and one-of-a-kind items will be displayed beautifully. Take a chance on the teacup raffle or the quilt raffle. There will also be a baked goods table with fresh homemade treats. Your purchases benefit the programs and services at the Enfield Senior Center. Thank you for supporting us.
Our annual Veterans Tribute will be held on Thursday, November 10 at 1 p.m. Everyone is invited to join us for a patriotic performance of songs from the First World War by Rick Spencer. Listen to the cultural history of the period and popular and inspiring music. Cake and coffee will be served following the presentation. There is no charge for this event.
Enfield Youth Services is visiting the Senior Center on Monday, November 14 at 4 p.m. with an important presentation on underage drinking. Talk. They Hear You, empowers parents and grandparents to start the dialogue on this important topic. Help support their important work by joining us.
If you have not been to the Enfield Senior Center, we are offering a tour and talk about what the Senior Center offers. Drop in on Tuesday, November 15 at 10 a.m. for Welcome to Enfield Senior Center and meet in the Senior Center Library. No need to register, just come!
Do you have questions that a Social Worker can answer? Would you like to talk about transitions like relocation, adjustment to change and loss, retirement, or healthcare needs? Perhaps you have questions about navigating State and Federal programs or would like to check your eligibility. Schedule a meeting on the first and third Friday from 9 a.m. to noon for Ask the Social Worker to provide direction or for help with basic needs by calling the Senior Center office.

• “Let’s Make a Little Christmas”, Phil Vassar at Fox Theatre and Foxwoods Casino, December 7, 2016. Cost: $90 per person.
• Beautiful – The Carole King Musical at the Bushnell, January 21, 2017. Cost: $149 per person. Trip sign-up date is November 18, 2016, 10 a.m.
• The Jersey Boys at the Bushnell, March 23, 2017. Cost: $117 per person. There is no sign-up date for this trip. Reservations are being taken at this time.
