News Release for the Week January 2, 2017

It is here! Ring in the New Year with resolutions to exercise more and be more social. The Enfield Senior Center can help you with both. Did you know that 81.7% of Enfield Senior Center participants report having more social outlets and more friends since attending. Additionally, 84.6% of Senior Center participants report feeling healthier. The Fitness Assistants in our PRIME Fitness Center will design a program just for you. Pick up a newsletter, give us a call, or find us online for more information.

Did you receive any presents over the holidays that you do not want? Maybe you have replaced your old clothes with something new. Allied’s Attic is coming to the Enfield Senior Center to collect any items you would like to donate. Allied will have a van in the Senior Center parking lot on Wednesday, January 11 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. to make it easier for you. Drop off your old clothes, coats, scarves, gift items…anything really. This is a great way to start the New Year by helping Allied and having a cleaner closet.

Ease stiffness, aches and pain in your hands with a free Hand Exercise class offered on Tuesdays from 9 to 10 a.m. beginning January 3. Learn ways to strengthen your hands and fingers to make everyday tasks easier.

Our very popular Boxing & More with Parkinson’s class continues to be offered on Mondays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and Wednesdays from 3 – 4 p.m. The Monday class fee is $24 for residents and $30 for nonresidents. The Wednesday class fee is $32 for residents and $40 for nonresidents. Those who have participated in this class have reported that everyday tasks are easier to perform and that they have more energy.

Nightshift Band is coming on Friday, January 20 at 6 p.m. to heat up our winter. Dance to 60s, 70s, and 80s popular danceable songs. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be postponed until Friday, January 27. Dessert and coffee will be served at the break. Whether you are dancing on the dance floor or in your chair, you are going to love this dynamic band.

The Enfield Recreation Department is sponsoring Adult Open Gym Pickleball on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays from January 5 through April 28 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The daily fee is $2 for residents and $2.50 for non-residents. Please call Enfield Recreation at 860-253-6420 with any questions.

If the Enfield Public Schools are closed because of inclement weather, the Senior Center programs are canceled. If there is a school delay, our schedule goes on as usual. The building remains open, in most cases, for drop-in activities including the Prime Fitness Center. Notification of cancellation is posted on WFSB, Twitter and Facebook. Always feel free to give us a call to check the closing status.
