News Release for the Week of
February 20, 2017
A large portion of falls are preventable.
Learn practical coping strategies to reduce fear of falling, change the
environment to reduce fall risk, and simple exercises to increase strength and
balance. A Matter of Balance is an evidence-based falls management program
for older adults offered through St. Francis Care at the Enfield Senior Center.
The size of the class is limited and you must be able to attend all 8 classes,
but there is no charge for the class. The class is offered on Tuesdays, March
7, 21, April 4 and 11 from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. and Wednesdays, March 8, 22,
April 5 and 12 from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. Please call 860-763-7425 to register.
Are you curious about the Caribbean Cruise that we are offering
for January 28 – February 9, 2018? Thirteen days and 12 nights on a cruise to
the sunny South Caribbean in the middle of winter sounds wonderful. Find out
all of the details at the trip presentation on Thursday, February 23 at 2 p.m. Detailed trip flyers are available at the
Senior Center.
The Senior Center and Allied’s Attic are
planning a Fashion Show for Thursday, May 4 at 6 p.m. Allied’s Attic will
provide the clothes and accessories. We are looking for volunteer models who
will put together an outfit that is both thrifty and attractive. Both men and
women models are needed. It will be fun! Sign up in the Senior Center office.
Because of the weather, the very popular Genealogy class will be changed. On
February 16 from 2 to 3 p.m., the class will be DNA & Your Family Tree. The
final class in the series will be held on March 16 from 2 to 3 p.m. and the
topic will be Using Online Genealogy Resources.
Back by popular demand is the Elton John
Tribute Band, Bennie & the Jets.
When they were here last, they put on a fantastic show with the excitement of
an Elton John concert. Bennie & the Jets are returning on Friday, March 3
at 6 p.m. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person and includes dessert and
coffee.
If the Enfield Public Schools are closed
because of inclement weather, the Senior Center programs are canceled. If there
is a school delay, our schedule goes on as usual. The building remains open, in
most cases, for drop-in activities including the Prime Fitness Center.
Notification of cancellation is posted on WFSB, Twitter and Facebook. Always
feel free to give us a call to check the closing status.
