News Release for the Week of
March 6, 2017
The Enfield Senior Center has been
recommended for full accreditation for the third time! This is a really big
deal for us and we are very proud. It was a lot of work! The National Institute
on Senior Centers has a rigorous accreditation process. Accredited senior
centers must meet 9 standards including Purpose and Planning, Community
Connections, Governance, Administration, Program Development, Evaluation,
Fiscal Responsibility, Records and Reports and Facility. This year long process
included a self-assessment, strategic plan, on-site peer review and off-site
peer review. The process also included community partners, Senior Center staff,
Town staff, residents, and Senior Center board members. Only 7 senior centers
in CT are accredited.
The
Usual Suspects
are back. This local band really rocks the Senior Center and fills the dance
floor. Pick up your tickets for their Friday, March 24, 6 p.m. dance for $7 per
person in the Senior Center office. This is always a great night. Coffee and
dessert are served at the break.
Enfield Culture & Arts Commission in
sponsoring Belly Dancing Lessons on
Thursday, March 23 at 6 p.m. Hips scarves, instruction and music are provided.
There is no fee for the class but registration, in the Senior Center office, is
required. What fun!
Last week we had a great turnout for the Afternoon Ballroom Dance. Everyone had
a great time dancing to the sounds of keyboardist, Richie Mitnick. Join us for
a special St. Patrick’s Day dance on Friday, March 17 at 2 p.m. The cost is $3
per person at the door and includes a snack and coffee at the break.
Every month we show a TED Talk and every month we have more and more people attending.
Join us on Thursday, March 16 at 10:30 for “All it Takes is 10 Mindful
Minutes.” No registration is necessary. We watch the TED Talk and discuss it
after.
The Senior Center and Allied’s Attic are
planning a Fashion Show for Thursday, May 4 at 6 p.m. Allied’s Attic will
provide the clothes and accessories. We are looking for volunteer models who
will put together an outfit that is both thrifty and attractive. Both men and
women models are needed. It will be fun! Sign up in the Senior Center office.
