News Release for the Week of June 19, 2017
We have many reasons to celebrate! On Monday, June 26 at 3 p.m., we are celebrating our third National Senior Center Accreditation. We want to thank everyone who is a part of the Senior Center family. Our volunteers have been so important to making the Senior Center active and friendly. So we are celebrating the many hours that our volunteers have contributed, also. Airborne Jazz will provide the musical entertainment. Please join in the fun.
On Thursday, June 22 at 6 p.m. this 19-piece band will entertain with fantastic sounds of notables like Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Artie Shaw, and Benny Goodman and more contemporary artists like Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, and Dean Martin, right up to today’s favorites, Harry Connick Jr, and Michael Buble. Tickets are on sale for $7 per person for the Blue Skies Big Band Benefit Concert. Proceeds will benefit Enfield Foundation for Excellence in Education and the Enfield Senior Center.
Suffield by the River is sponsoring an interactive presentation called Spice Up Your Rice on Wednesday, June 21 at 1 p.m. Chef Carlos is offering a free cooking demonstration to teach you how to spice up your dinners with a new side dish. Taste the dish, grab a recipe card and enter a raffle for a dinner. There is no charge, but registration is required.
Find out about Essential Oils on Wednesday, June 28 at 1 p.m. Sandi Feld of Young Essential Oils will explain how to use them and how to know you are selecting the right kind.
Learn how to manage primary risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, obesity, physical inactivity and poor diet to lower your individual risk for stroke with Erin Ballou, MA. Stroke Prevention and Education Program will be held on Wednesday, July 5 at 1 p.m.
The Enfield Senior Center hosts TED Talks and discussion groups on the first and third Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m. In July the topics are How Computers are Learning to Be Creative on July 6 and The Wonderful and Terrifying Implications of Computers That Can Learn on July 20. Exercise your brain by joining this class in the Technology Room. There is no fee or registration for the TED Talks discussion.
It’s not too early to plan your 2018 dream vacation on our distinctive Mediterranean Cruise scheduled for September 22 through October 5, 2018.
