News Release for the Week of July 31, 2017

 

Tickets are on sale now for $7 for the Truck Stop Troubadours concert on Friday, August 18 at 6 pm.  In a time when country music has become less country it’s good to know that there is a band like the Truck Stop Troubadours to keep the fire alive for the traditional sounds and themes of true country music.

Researchers believe that as we age, our immune system becomes less effective at fighting infections.  This results in older people contracting more infections, which can be severe and put us at risk of developing sepsis.  Join us as Nancy Hernandez, BSN, RN, Sepsis Program Coordinator at Saint Francis Hospital presents the Aging, Infection and Sepsis seminar on Wednesday August 2 at 1 pm to find out what symptoms should not be ignored. The Enfield Senior Center hosts TED Talks and discussion groups on the first and third Thursday of the month at 10:30 a.m. The topic, How to Make Stress Your Friend is on August 3. Exercise your brain by joining this class in the Technology Room. There is no fee or registration for the TED Talks discussion.

Wellness Naturally, a seminar to be held on Wednesday, August 9 at 1 pm, with two local practitioners, to discuss the benefits of homeopathy and introduce new balance and flexibility techniques to relieve pain and stiffness.  Both topics will help you learn about natural, and sometimes rapid, paths to wellness and active lifestyles.  Please sign up in advance at the front desk.

Enjoy the movie A Dog’s Purpose, on Thursday August 10. A devoted dog discovers the meaning of its own existence through the lives of the humans it teaches to laugh and love. Purchase a ticket in advance for $5 which includes movie and pizza. Pizza is served at 5 p.m. and the movie begins at 6 p.m. Movie only tickets purchased at the door for $2. Assistive hearing devices are available for the movie.

Get your hands dirty and exercise your green thumb at our Succulent Social on Friday, August 11 at 10 am.  Cost of the class is $40 and includes all the supplies to create your own table top garden using succulent plants.  Register at the front desk.

What’s the big deal with eating too much sugar?  How much sugar should you be eating in your diet?  Join us on August 16 at 1 pm for Sugar 101 to find out the answers to these questions and more.  Health educator Erin Ballou M.A., will lead this informative lecture.  Please sign up in advance at the front desk.
