Andrew Epstein, MD of Northern CT Eye Association will lead a discussion on the causes, symptoms and advanced treatment options for Cataracts, Glaucoma and Macular Degeneration on October 18 at 1 pm. Please register at the front desk.
Join us for TED Talks the first and third Thursdays of the month. The next TED Talk will be held on October 19 at 10:30 a.m., Robert Ballard – The Astonishing Hidden World of the Deep Ocean. Ocean explorer Robert Ballard takes us on a mind bending trip to hidden worlds underwater, where he and other researchers are finding unexpected life, resources, and even new mountains. No registration required just stop in.
Join us on October 19 at 6 pm for the movie Dr. Strange about a top neurosurgeon whose career is ruined after he is injured in a horrific car accident which causes him to lose the use of his hands. When traditional medicine fails him, he goes on a journey determined to find a way to be healed. Tickets are $5 in advance for movie and meal; $2 at the door for the movie only.
United Health Care Medicare Workshop presented by Kate McCloskey of Stateline Senior Services will be held on Wednesday, October 18 at 10 am. Kate will discuss United Health Care Medicare Advantage plans for 2018 and the differences between Original Medicare and Medicare Advantage Plans. Come and learn about the United Health Care plans available in your area. Please register at the front desk.
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, on Monday, October 30 at 9 am we will have a representative from the Network Against Domestic Abuse facilitate a session on “Domestic Violence and Elder Abuse”. This is the perfect opportunity to come together to erase some of the stigma associated with domestic violence and learn about elder abuse. Some of the topics that will be discussed include the cycle of violence, recognizing the warning signs of a potential abuser, why victims stay and resources to contact for help. The Town of Enfield Department of Social Services is offering a free 5-week educational self-care class for family caregivers called “Powerful Tools for Caregivers”. If you are caring for a family member, this class will provide you with tools and strategies to better handle the unique challenges you face. Participants will receive a copy of The Caregiver Handbook, developed specifically for this class. For more information, please contact Tracy Roche at 860-253-5214. Class size is limited. Ballroom Dance with Richie Mitnick is on Friday, October 27 at 2 p.m. Dance away the afternoon and have a snack at the break for $3 at the door.

- Thomaston Opera House – It’s A Wonderful Life, December 3, 2017. Cost $91 per person includes lunch at the Black Rock Tavern.
- Westchester Theatre – Chorus Line, March 1, 2018. Trip sign up date is December 15, 2017 at 10 am. Cost $111 per person includes pre-show lunch.

- Virginia Beach, VA & The Outer Banks, NC, April 30 – May 4, 2018. Cost $701 pp/double.
- Colorado’s Historic Trains, August 10 – 18, 2018. Cost $3,299 pp/double.
- Mediterranean Cruise, September 22 – October 5, 2018. Cost $2999 pp/double. Trip presentation date is October 17 at 2 pm.
