News Release for the Week of November 13, 2017

 

 

The Enfield Senior Center Craft Fair was a great success! A special thank you to our dedicated, hardworking volunteers working along with Program Coordinator, Nancy Darrah, who put together a wonderful display of creative talent.  We truly appreciate all who attended this wonderful event and thank you all for your continued support!

 

Take advantage of the wonderful free services and support programs offered at the Enfield Senior Center.  Call the Senior Center office to make an appointment or for more information on any of these services. We offer Medicare Assistance, Alzheimer’s Association Office Hours, and we also have a Medical Equipment Loan Closet. Many participants take advantage of Blood Pressure Clinics or our many support groups such as Alzheimer’s Caregivers, Blood Cancer, Diabetes, Gluten Free, Bereavement or Stroke Support Groups. Join us for Morning Toast starting at 8:30 am and enjoy toast or an English muffin with a cup of coffee or tea.  Lunch is also offered daily for $2.50 at noon by calling 860-763-7428 the day before.  The menu can be found on our website www.enfield-ct.gov/seniors or you can pick up a copy at the Senior Center.

 

Join us for our movie and meal featuring The Zoo Keeper’s Wife on November 16 at 6 pm.  The real life story of one working wife and mother who became a hero to hundreds during World War II.  Tickets are $5 in advance for movie and meal or $2 at the door for the movie only.

 

Join us for TED Talks the first and third Thursdays of the month.  The next TED Talk will be held on November 16 at 10:30 a.m., Ellen Dunham-Jones, Retrofitting Suburbia.  Award-winning architect Ellen Dunham-Jones teaches at the Georgia Institute of Technology and is a board member of the Congress for the New Urbanism.  She shows how design impacts some of the most pressing issues of our times – reducing our ecological footprint and energy consumption while improving our health and communities and providing living options for all ages.  No registration required, just drop in.

 

The Hot Flashes are an exciting and eclectic group of three female vocalists who have made a name for themselves on the New England music scene showcasing their tight vocal harmonies and jazzy acoustic stylings.  The Hot Flashes will perform on November 17 at 6 pm.  Tickets are $7 and include dessert and coffee.

 

The Goldtones Holiday Concert is on Sunday, November 26 at 2 p.m. and includes traditional holiday music and some new songs. Tickets are on sale for $5 per person and include dessert and coffee after the concert. Doors open at 1 pm and tickets may be purchased at the door.

 

Exercise Treatments for Parkinson’s Disease presented by Mt. Sinai Rehab Hospital will be held on November 29 at 1 pm.  A therapy team consisting of Physical, Occupational and Speech Therapists will discuss “LSVT BIG and LOUD”, a research-based program that addresses movement and voice difficulties in people with Parkinson’s Disease.  LSVT BIG and LOUD is an outpatient program offered at Mt. Sinai Rehabilitation Hospital.

Day Trips

Day trips are available for sale on or after the trip sign-up date. 

·         Thomaston Opera House – It’s A Wonderful Life, December 3, 2017.  Cost $91 per person includes lunch at the Black Rock Tavern. 

·         Westchester Theatre – Chorus Line, March 1, 2018. Cost $111 per person includes pre-show lunch. Trip sign up date is December 15, 2017 at 10 am. 

 

Multi-Day Adventures

Reservations are being accepted for multi-day adventures.

·         Spain’s Classics, April 19 – 29, 2018. Cost $3,899 pp/double.

·         Virginia Beach, VA & The Outer Banks, NC, April 30 – May 4, 2018. Cost $701 pp/double.

·         1000 Islands, Alexandria Bay, NY, June 6 – 8, 2018. Cost $513 pp/double.

·         Colorado’s Historic Trains, August 10 – 18, 2018. Cost $3,299 pp/double.

·         Lancaster, PA Sight & Sound Theatre ‘Jesus’, September 24 -26, 2018. Cost $453 pp/double.

·         Mediterranean Cruise, September 22 – October 5, 2018.  Cost $2999 pp/double. 

·         Iceland, November 29 – December 5, 2018. Cost $3,759 pp/double.  Trip presentation is December 12, 2017 at 2 pm.

·         American Queen River Cruise, New Orleans to Memphis, December 2 – 10, 2018.  Cost $2,599 inside cabin pp/double includes Air, shore excursions and more.
