Below are some of the network enhancements we have made recently!
PurView Network Analytics – Software has been installed to troubleshoot network problems by analyzing traffic and resource utilization. PurView captures and analyzes context-based application traffic to deliver meaningful intelligence – about applications, users, locations and devices. PurView helps detect malicious applications and Shadow IT, understand application usage to aid in IT business planning, and assists in IT troubleshooting to determine root cause of issues.
Palo Alto – We have made a significant change to our network firewall to increase security. A network firewall is a system, which allows or denies traffic to enter a network. We have changed the way our firewall allows/denies access from a port-based design to one that is application-based. The new approach looks at individual applications, such as Snapchat, Dropbox, etc., and allows traffic into the network based on the application, instead of based on an open port. It allows us a more granular way to guard against harmful applications, such as BitTorent (which allows you to download large files) and proxy anonymizers (a tool that attempts to make activity on the Internet untraceable).
Other Network Maintenance – Ongoing management of servers and other network devices includes the retirement of old servers, a shift to online backup using Azure, an upgrade to the StorSimpl appliance (which allows us to keep server and appliance software up to date), and an update to iBoss appliances. The benefits of these changes include progressing with current technologies, cost savings, increased reliability and secure data backups.
