News Release for the Week of March 25, 2018

 

 

The Senior Minor Repair Program, sponsored by the Enfield Commission on Aging, will begin the 2018 repair season on Tuesday, April 3, 2018. The program will start taking requests on Monday, March 19, 2018. Requests can be made by calling 860 253-6396. The program focuses on minor home repairs that can help Enfield Seniors remain more comfortable and safe in their homes. Examples of the assistance provided include window air conditioner installation & removal, leaking faucets, changing smoke detector batteries. There is no charge for labor however, there may be a charge for supplies (at cost). The program is staffed strictly by volunteers who have had background checks performed and carry an ID. A brief description of the repair requested is needed to help ensure the proper tools and/or supplies are available.

 

Do you know what disease brought down Superman, a heavy weight champ, and a beloved Pope? Sepsis!  Learn how to Prevent Sepsis  and Surviving a Life Threatening Illness, why you may be at risk, and when to seek medical attention. Every minute counts if you suspect sepsis. Wednesday, March 28, 1 pm. Call 860-763-7425 and sign up. This is a free program.

 

Ask the Lawyer - Attorneys Marcia Hess and Neil Kraner will be available for 15-minute private appointments on Wednesday, March 28, 10 am – noon. Call the Senior Center office for your free appointment. There could be a little waiting, because some appointments may take a little longer than others, but this is a great opportunity to have questions answered.

 

The first day of class registration for Enfield residents for the May-Jun classes will be Tuesday, April 3, starting at 8:30 am. Registration for non-residents begins, Tuesday, April 10 at 8:30.   

 

Bring in your assistive equipment for an Equipment Tune-Up Clinic.  They will inspect your canes, wheelchairs and walkers to make sure everything is in working order and fits properly. Tuesday April 3, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm.  Free program.

 

The Senior Center will be closed on Friday, March 30 in observance of Good Friday.

Day trips are available for sale on or after the trip sign-up date. 

·         Wright’s Farm & Twin River Casino, May 24, 2018.  Cost $72 per person. 

·         NYC by Land & Sea, June 19, 2018.  Cost $97 per person.  Trip sign up date is April 6, 2018.

·         Red Sox Game at Fenway Park, June 24, 2018.  Cost $142 per person. Reservations currently being accepted.

·         All You Can Eat Lobster at the Delaney House, July 11, 2018.  Cost $100 per person.  Trip sign up date is May 4, 2018.

·         Webster Lake Riverboat Cruise, July 31, 2018.  Cost $96 per person.  Trip sign up date is May 11, 2018.

·         The Lighthouses of Boston Harbor, August 29, 2018.  Cost $113 per person.  Trip sign up date is June 15, 2018.

·         Summer in the Green Mountains, Stowe, VT, August 6 – 8, 2018.  Cost $401 pp/double. 

·         Colorado’s Historic Trains, August 10 – 18, 2018. Cost $3,299 pp/double.

·         Atlantic City & Cape May, September 12 -14, 2018. Cost $339 pp/double.

·         Lancaster, PA Sight & Sound Theatre ‘Jesus’, September 24 -26, 2018. Cost $453 pp/double. SOLD OUT

·         Mediterranean Cruise, September 22 – October 5, 2018.  Cost $2999 pp/double.

·         Nashville Music City, October 9 – 16, 2018.  Cost $1,763 pp/double.

·         Iceland, November 29 – December 5, 2018. Cost $3,759 pp/double. 

·         American Queen River Cruise, New Orleans to Memphis, December 2 – 10, 2018.  Cost $2,599 inside cabin pp/double includes Air, shore excursions and more.
