The Department of Public Works met with Eversource contractor, Asplundh Tree Service on Friday, December 21, 2018 to kick off the 2019 Tree Trimming Project in town with a target completion date of August 2019.
Trees that are decayed, insect-infested, damaged or structurally weak may be removed if deemed a safety threat. Small trees and saplings that are capable of growing into the conductors become tall enough to interfere with the electrical lines will be removed, and any limbs that need to be pruned will be where the limb meets the branch collar so that the pruning cut will callous over and prevent decay of the pruning wound, preserving the health of those trees.
The tree cutting equipment has a capability of chipping up to a 15” branch. Larger logs will be stockpiled for future pickup within in 1-2 weeks. Eversource / Asplundh will go door to door requesting the resident sign a consent form agreeing to proposed tree work. On these forms will be an option for residents to keep the wood if they so choose.
This program is of no cost to the resident or the Town.
